Aston Martin sportshift versus Ferrari F1

My dealer claims they are the same. Is this correct? I wonder if someone here owns both cars and could comment. I read with interest many threads here on 6 speed versus sportshift.

I'm thinking 09 sportshift but it would be reassuring if it compared well to the 430 or 360 F1 transmission.

Thanks

Arnaud

Are you asking about how it's operated by the driver and how it feels OR how they technically differ (the actual transmission and gear changing technology)?

Ideally, I would love to know both. It is hard to tell on the system will really feel based on a limited test drive... Also, I'm curious if this is in fact the same system...

Thanks

It a Magneti-Marelli developed 6 speed semi auto as is Ferrari's F1 transmission and Lamborghini's E-gear.

My dealer told me the same thing about the sportshift as well but never confirmed it. In fact, when I was looking to purchase a V8V last year I called a dealer out west, maybe Newport Beach, CA I can't remember which one, and the salesman told me the same thing on a car of theirs I was looking at.

I have driven the F1 trans in a F355 and I could not tell the difference to this and the Aston sportshift.

I am quite pleased with my sportshift. I would purchase another.

I had an 07 sportshift until recently and currently have a F430 F1. Their are a lot of similarities in terms of shifting characteristics but the Ferrari is much faster especially when you dial the manetto to sport or racing. Overall I was pleased with the Aston. I liked the creeping feature too even though I know it was eating the clutch.

F1 vs SS

I've used both. While operation is the same, the feel is somewhat different. The F1 is clearly quicker and more seamless. No lag, even at slower speeds. The SS has more shift lag, slow or fast. Not bad, mind you, just slower. Especially at slower speeds. If you get the SS, keep it in "sport" for the quicker shifts. Have spent a lot of time comparing the Audi R-tronic on the R8 too. Feels very much like the Aston system. Bought the R8 with the gated manual. May look at a new R8 V10 convertible with the R-tronic and hope that Audi keeps on improving their system.

By the way, I also spent some time with the Porsche PDK and was NOT overly impressed. I may have missed something, but it was just not as good as some of teh press seemed to claim.
having said all that, I still replaced my '09 V8V with a manual DBS. I still love the connection to the car with a manual.

All depends on you and how you plan to use the cars.

Thanks for all the answers. Very useful. I think I'll go with sportshift, mostly because it is different from my 07 GT3 which is obviously a 6 speed.
