No idea what to title this...

Just looking for a little guidance. I'm looking at a few 07/08 vantages listed in the low 80's. My only requirements are sportshift and one of the gray colors. My dilemma is the warranty. Should I pay a premium to get another year or so on the warranty? There is an 07 with 7k miles, exactly what I want, but the warranty expires in May. And they're asking $80k. What is a realistic price to get this car? I am chomping at the bit, I want to get the car in the next two months.

Thanks

If you're talking about buying an extended warranty, you need to review what it covers, and doesn't cover. Personally, I thought it was too expensive for what it includes. If you're talking about buying a car with more original warranty period left, that's a tougher call. For me, I wanted a car with at least a few months left on the original warranty in case there were any defects I couldn't detect in a brief inspection and test drive.

As for price, it depends of course on the condition of the car, but I bought my '07 with 7.5k miles about 5 months ago and paid just over $70k. Also, I found several others with similar stats (but different colors) in the $65k-$70k range. I think you can get a better price.

So why in the hell are these guys asking $85K for these cars! I see a bunch of people saying they got them in the 60's, and they have depreciated since then.... I just feel like an idiot offering $15K-20K less than the asking price.

1. mine was everything an AM buyer's not looking for. Spotty service, one cosmetic part replacement (on carfax).
2. If you follow the forum here closely, you'd see that Ferrari dealerships tend to sell AM trade-ins for cheaper.
3. I got mine last month, so not a lot of depreciation yet :P

I offered 4k below asking for my car. My earlier attempts at offering 12k below asking price at other dealerships were scoffed at.

Hey cshsia,

Any advice on dealers local to area NYC where I can start my search? I know Ray Catena used to be big but I don't think they're doing much with Aston now.

Hope to see your car at Captree one of these Sundays!

I actually flew out to Chicago and drove it back early December. It was pouring rain throughout the 5 hours in Pennsylvania. I was basically checking Autotrader 3 times a day, and called as soon as I spotted that car.

I have actually never been to Captree before :P. Never had a performance car until this one. I'll definitely swing by one of these Sundays. Does it take place every sunday with relatively clear skies?

Yup, still happening as far as I know. Just don't speed and make sure you have all your paperwork. Lot's of troopers on the prowl. I see that you don't have a front plate so you may get some grief from them...

I plan to visit Miller Motors cars in Long Island on Saturday and will post back with a pricing report...

Keep in mind that they price their used AMs with 2 years ext. warranty included, hence the higher price. Really enjoyed shopping there, too bad they didn't have a model that met my needs.

Front plate was installed last week, I'm being a law abiding citizen.

OK, few questions on the car I'm looking at. Just the got the service records. An 07 with 7K miles on it. Been to the dealer 5 times to get 11 things fixed... Is this normal shakedown for these cars? Seems like a lot for only having 7K miles on it??

Thanks, Mike

Normal based on my experience, since people who buy these cars don't drive them much, so they take it in for service/maintenance purely on the calendar dates. First 1k miles service is free, so he's taken it in 4 other times in 3 years.

My cousin who's a mechanic also told me that AM is really conservative with the life expectancy of parts, recommending repairs and replacements earlier than most mechanics would expect. With that said, people don't drive these like ordinary cars.

I asked the AMLI service manager what is the highest mileage V8V he's seen, and it's 33k. Mine's up there at 27k.
