Switch to AM from Porsche
Switch to AM from Porsche
Hello,
Just wondering if anyone here has switched from a 911 to a Vantage. I have an 07 911 C2 with a few options and have been looking into maybe trading in for an 07 Vantage. Does anyone have any experience with ownership of both? I would like to take the car to the track on occasion..so obviously the new 4.7 Vantage would have more power...but its out of my budget...Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys,

After months of much deliberation I bot a 09 997.2 s over an 08 Vantage. For me it was based on a few factors:
LT running costs
Warranty
PDK was simply better than the F1
The Amv8 is very sexy however, and 08 models prices have fallen a lot. personally the additional cost of an 09 is not justified when you can mod an 08 for approx $5k to get nearly 400hp.

I have had many Pcars and went from a very modded 996 tt to a Vantage - track all my cars. My only suggestion is there are not many aftermarket parts for the Vantage in reference to the track. I think I have all of them ! There are a lot of great aftermarket companies/parts for any model Pcar = there are about 40k AMs out there, Porsche makes about 100k cars a year (rough figures but I think you get the point). Vantage is a great car but I just want to set your expectations. If you want to track your car more than say 3-4 times a year; I would suggest staying w/ a Pcar. Or go buy a Vantage GT2.
still got my 06 911cs2 with aerokit on it . still faster than the v8 vantage .
BUT
Vantage all the way buddy the only thing a 4.3 vantage lacks is power . easily increased with allot of mods available

where do you find some places that sell after market part of a AM. i know prodrive one but i never see a vendor or any other sites or other vendors that do have parts for them. sorry i am jumping in like this.

No problems. There's definitely much less available than for Porsche that's for sure. The Vantage market in particular is warming up, especially as the cars move on to their second owners who often prefer to buy cars with the big kick in the N*ts depreciation gone and spend that money on mods. It's tough sometimes from the product development standpoint - we're huge car guys too and think the Vantage is such a great car just begging for some upgrades. Unfortunately the market is so much smaller than Porsche and so much less mature that you can bring out a great product and it often takes a lot of commitment to get it off the ground!
yea i would beat it is hard, and sucks at the same time. i would like to see more modd AM driving around. i love the looks and sounds from them. but till I find a job that can support my dream cars. I'm still going to drive my Lexus. :-/ well good luck.
Tough call! Just went through the same process...have owned three 911's, the most recent of which, a Champion F77 packaged 997 C4S has been absolutley amazing(comfy albeit stiff and jittery), very, very quick, precise, just loud enough (thanks to Tubi, etc, etc), a track tool, yet practical...what more can you ask for...but still wanted a change;
-R8??...too... mmm...Audi-ish, and in a few years will look like the Delorian does now.
-GT-R?? Great value, and a tremendous all-rounder, but it's a Nissan....nuhhh!
-Another 911, say the 997.2 C4S, GT3 or TT?? Too easy, and they're all essentially the same car(obviously not, but in my 911-tired eyes they are...), sooo, no, not another 911.
-Just 1 left on my list, and now I'll be starting the learning curve all over with an AMV. Will need to source the best and most effective yet tactful performance mods, will need to find new shoes, will need to schmooze a new dealer, find new track days, etc, etc, but it will undoubtedly be a great NEW experience. Isn't that what it's all about?!?
Can't wait to buy another 911 in 2 years!
The End!
