DB9 thoughts

So after a year and three-quarters with my DB9, I've had thoughts of selling lately. The car is so lovely to look at and is a pretty thrilling drive, but I don't use it much and almost find myself having to find time to drive it some. I haven't done too good a job of that in logging about 1800, yes eighteen hundred, miles in that time. For almost 10 years now I've had a "toy" car, before it was the heavily modified 996 TT, but the same probem existed. That car was sold after 6+ years and 10,000 miles. In my regular life I won't/can't drive it and in my "spare" time there's always something going on. For some reason I haven't become attached to this car like the Turbo, maybe b/c that was my first "super" car. Please no "just drive it more" statements b/c it won't happen. I guess I'm just looking for some sympathy from fellow owners who share a car disease and struggle with some of it's side-effects

just drive it more....

You know what's best for your wallet. It's a wise move to let something go that you're not using. If it were me, I'd keep the 911 as well. Just enough super car to get by with without having to give up an arm.

Does this make you feel better?

400 miles in 1 year, same problem as you, but obviously worse.

All I can say is that the buyers of your cars are ones of the luckiest people, they will buy a brand new car for a used car price..

I think I would end up taking a break from a "garage queen" for a while. Yes, you are right in that the 2nd owner of these things is really making out. While I love new, you really take a beating. Probably the main hurdle in me getting rid of it is that it is probably worth more to me than I could get in selling it...

I've been there before. I found myself with a new business opportunity that kept me upside down for a year. So I sold my 996tt CAB and bought a more conservative AMG. It was a bit cathartic. I could never take a TT or the Aston to work but I drive the X6M with no trouble or resent from my staff. If your looking for consolation, consider a high performance sedan or SAV if you can drive it to work.

Mine was used. I still can sell it for pretty much what I paid for it. Based on the typical mileage I drive, no more new 'toy' cars for me. Last new toy was a Z06. Put 850 miles on it in 2 years, got killed when I sold it. That's when I swore no more new toys. let someone else take the beating (and they did when I bought my DB9 with 6K miles).

So although 400 miles is pretty bad, at least I'm not taking the new car depreciation hit, which if I was, I'd have to kill myself...

My office is in a very blue-collar area and having it parked here would reflect both positively and negatively on the people who would see it. It's a small office building and everyone would KNOW it's mine. At other times it is not practical as my 8-year old twins don't fit well in the back without me adjusting my seat to an uncomfortable position. That leaves times when it's just me or me and the wife, and that's not much...

You bought it to drive it.

I used to worry what my clients thought if they saw me in an expensive car, so I drove around in an older M3. Finally, I thought, why am I going to not enjoy myself because of what other people think? So, I sucked it up, and bought the Aston.

I drive mine to work everyday. Not one negative response yet.

Enjoy the car and the fruits of your labor. As long as you are not arrogant, and are humble, the majority of people are not going to react negatively.

I drove a used cayenne for a year to work in an environment similar to Red Devil's. My employees began to up their raise requests and my clients questioned every price and bartered every transaction. It didn't matter that the car was used. I became known as "Mr. Porsche." I can only assume it would be even worse with an Aston. I totally get where RD is coming from. I agree, it shouldn't matter but in an economy like this, resent is bound to be an issue for some people. The real problem is that as a professional, you find yourself defending your success. It's just noise that you don't need in the workplace. I came very close at one point to buying a building with a garage and a separate entrance to avoid being seen. That's why I switched to BMW's. There are so may different model lines most people don't know what the M means. In fact, I have an hourly employee who bought a used X3 and often remarks that we have practically the same car. I smile and nod.

I tend to think the opposite. If I’m using/ researching the services of a “professional”, I tend to favor them/ feel more at easy, when a nice ride is in their parking lot.
To me it says: “This person must know what they’re doing.”
Tis silly, but true.

FYI: Some mornings I see you turning onto Taylor Rd. from Williamson.
Even with my car’s windows up, I can hear your car until you cross to the
other side of I-95. It sounds awesome!

I’m in the same club as the others here... > 1000 miles in the past year. My excuse - outside of being out of town a lot - is - I take my dog everywhere, and he doesn’t seem to like riding in the Vantage... not enough room for him to stretch out. ‘ actually drove it today, and he hated every minute of it. Oh well... a *tuff* dog’s life.

Trade it on a Rapide. I looked at one while at my AM-Ferrari dealer recently and they are fantastic. the only interior I've seen that is more sumptuous than the Maseratis. I know -- not as fast as the Panamera S Turbo, but then, that car is butt ugly and worse. Four doors -- so your kids would fit just fine.

And drive it ever day - best of both worlds.
