purchase nightmare

So after looking everywhere for a car, I found one in Chicago and put a deposit on it. I had a friend go and look at the car and everything was good to go. They lined up the daytime running lights as I need them to bring it across the border. I lined up the trucking company to pick up the car tomorrow when the dealer informs me today that they don't have the title yet and won't be able to get it for three weeks. I cancelled the deal but can't believe that there are companies out there like this that actually stay in business. I guess I'm in the market for an AMV again although not happily.

It might help if you post what you are looking for. There are a lot of V8V out there.

It was actually a silver coupe and yes it was a dealer, although not an Aston dealer. Apparently someone traded the car in and they didn't know it would take so long to get the title. I told them they shouldn't have listed it for sale if they didn't even have the title. It was an 07 vantage with pretty much every option. It had 9600 miles on it and the deal was for $70,500. If you guys know of anything out there in this price range, let me know.

getting titles can be a pain sometimes. i refinanced an auto loan from one bank to another a while back, and the new bank had a hell of a time getting the title from the old one. sorry to hear it fell though, though. that's a bummer when you're ready to go! best of luck with the next one.

Sorry to hear about that! The sales guys just want to make a deal. I bought my Vantage and was told that he would ship it 3-4 days later. After a week, the car still hadn't shipped and when I called him and he told me that it might be 3 weeks before shipping! I asked if he wanted me to set up shipping and he responded in a snide way, "Be my guest if you think that you can do better." Set up shipping and had it in 3 days. Then he called me complaining about the price, but the GM of the place backed me up and paid the bill.

Ray Portillo on my previous post (Price Check) commented on his friend wanting to sell his 08 Vantage. PM him and check it out. Probably for '08 you're going to have to spend more, but I'm glad that I got a car in warranty.

Good luck on finding a car, summers slipping away!

sorry to hear about that. my buddy is selling his 08 Vantage if you're interested. not only do i know the owner of the car, but also the owner of the dealership so if you want i can set up a call for you guys to discuss/negotiate. this dealership has shipped cars overseas as well to the middle east, asia and europe so they are familiar with the process.

PM me b/c I do not frequent the AM section often.

Blayne, I'm really sorry to hear that! There is so many steps as Canadians to import a US car into Canada and there is bound to have something go wrong. With me it was the shipping company that backed out at the last second, I had to find a new company and that delayed the arrival date by 10 days. I wish you luck in finding a replacement car. The car in the above post looks nice, see if you can get it for 75k!!!

If it's the car you want why can't you just wait the three weeks?

Seems to be a bit of cutting off your nose to spite your face type of a situation here.

I hear what you are saying and if I can't find anything else, I may wait. I was just so frustrated with the whole deal, that this was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. They really didn't seem to know what they were doing but you are right and sometimes pride and impatience can get in the way. We'll see what happens as the car really was everything I wanted.

Maybe negotiate with them and see if they are willing to pay for shipping or lower the price if you stick with the deal.
