Belt/Pulley noise
Belt/Pulley noise
Can you guys help with what this noise is? I picked up this Aston Martin V8 Vantage on Thursday and this noise was coming from the driving belt/pulleys from what I read. Any comments on what it could be or how much it may cost to fix? I have a warranty 30 day/1000 miles from the dealership I bought it from, but they say they its a wear/tear item which is not covered. Yet the car had the problem when we first turned it on at the showroom.
Thanks,
Heres the video of the noise:

FYI - There was a bracket recall on my MY 2007 that made the belt squeek. The bracket was actually off spec (a part AM buys) and could not be "fixed" w/ shims or anything. Not sure if this would apply but was found and covered by my dealer back when I bought my car new.
You bought this car from a dealership 3 days ago and they won't fix this issue even though it was present from day one? I'd like to say I'm surprised but I can't even get AM sales reps to answer questions or return my phone calls about purchasing one of their cars. But don't get me started on that rant. I'm no mechanic but it sounds like a belt tensioner pulley. Pick up a can of PB Blaster from your local Autozone and spray the pulley bearing but allow a day or so for the penetrant to sink in. You can probably identify the source of this squeaking yourself. Maybe the PB Blaster will even correct your problem. If the tensioner pulley doesn't fix it, try the same thing to your A/C compressor, then your alternator bearing etc... Note: Don't skimp and use WD-40. Buy a $5 can of PB. Would you mind showing me exactly where to spray the PB blaster? I'd like that alot. I dont wanna go spraying everywhere! Thanks.
I will try this today and will let you know how it works

Dealership quoted me $319, pulleys and belt replaced.
I will try the PB Blaster the night before to see if it works, then take it in the following morning, if not.

For such a short warantee--I have a warranty 30 day/1000 miles from the dealership I bought it from, but they say they its a wear/tear item which is not covered--it is usually given to the new owner to make sure any item that did not show up in Pre-Purchase inspection is covered. It shouldn't matter if this is a normal wear item! So are brakes, but if the brakes showed up to be worn out after a couple of weeks, this is not "Your Wear Item"--they were already worn when the car was sold to you--as was the belt and pully's. They should fix it or be prepared to be sued.
I'll call BMWNA, see what they say. They might force the dealership to pay. We are good BMW customers as well! At the end of the day its only $319 bucks, we knew the problem exsisted when the car was on the showroom, but went away after the first test drive. Came back, on the way home. Told the dealership the next day, they told me the following day, it wouldnt be covered since it was wear/tear. I will keep you posted.
I already sent an email again to the salesmen, and told him to have the sales manager call me about it. Also, I don't know how I feel about them (BMW shop) doing the service, as they are a BMW shop, and wont have these parts in stock nor have probably ever worked on an Aston. Not to mention the BMW dealership is 100 miles away, but the Aston Martin service closest to my place is about 20 miles.
