-replacing them
Did a forum search (and RTFM) to no avail and wanted to check before I get into things. Is it something as simple as just transferring them from wheel to wheel while keeping the color keyed units together? Does the system require a 'reset' or 're-sync' when this is done? How about if a unit is replaced?

Also, I think I have found an aftermarket option that costs about 1/3-1/4 of the stock ones. My sensors are ok and will transfer to the new wheels. But knowing the above answer might give us an alternative to 1k/set for TPMS. Specially considering that the 06s are nearing the end of their battery life.

 

I've moved the factory TPMS from the OEM wheels to aftermarket wheels and then back to OEM keeping the color coded stems in the same position on the car and never had one fault. I didn't touch the control unit or reset a thing. Hope that helps.

 

Perfect, thats what I thought ... I will just do one at a time.

 

The system automatically resets itself...by that I mean that when you swap out wheel just keep the stock sensors in the right position and it will adapt. I didn't have any problems when I switched wheels.

OK, so If I replace a faulty sensor, how do I re-sync to the TPMS Unit (the command module)?

 

I had a person tell me that they had done wheel swaps on AMs with aftermarket sensors. Used his hardware, some AMs were easy to sync some had to go through a few programing runs of the TPMS units.

I have aftermarket wheels that have a deep lip and thus my TPMS sensors had to be wrapped around the rim rather than connected to the valve stem. I haven't had any problems w/ this set up.

 

On the Valvestem curved to fit the rim.
This is an important thread IMO. This is probably one of those oddball consumable items that cars are coming up on needing. I don't mind paying to have them replaced but at 1K/set? That's a bit absurd. I have found aftermarkets that are supposed to fit at around 400/set.
