Brakes

I'm back already....

As I stated in my first thread, I'm loving the Vantage.

But.....dang the brake dust (remember I'm from the South).

I spend longer cleaning my wheels than actually driving.

A friend of mine (who has owned several Porsches') mentioned ceramic brakes. He stated that a ceramic brake system for a Porsche runs app. $15k.

I have seen ceramic brake pads online for as little as $60.

Has anyone ever tried any of these? Do they really create less dust? Pros? Cons? Are they a viable option?

Thanks in advance.

Carbon ceramic brake set-ups are even worse than regular performance brakes. My V12V & (previously ZR1) are both horrible for brake dust.
I think your friend is referring to low dust ceramic pads. Most of these ceramic pads are a light beige in color, so that the dust is less noticeable. Every brake set-up creates dust; it's just the nature of the beast, but standard metallic brake dust is the one that will cause rust stains and pitting in your expensive wheels. The ceramic brake pad dust does not create as much of an issue, as ceramic materials do not rust.

I installed porterfield R4-S pads in the front, they are Carbon Kevlar and I noticed a dramatic reduction in dust. But not completely gone, just better than the OEM pads. No squeaks either.

Is anyone else getting this issue with CCM brakes? I find mine are living up to their reputation for producing LESS dust than standard cast iron set ups.

Excuse my English, but...bullcrap.

CCM brakes are waaay less dusty than regular brakes. Everyone (except you) raves about how long the wheels stay clean with the CCM discs.

One of the great side benefits of CCM brakes is the lack of dust. With the regular brakes, you go for a 20 mile and the front wheels look like hell, with CCM...nada.

Try spraying Armor All Wheel Protectant on your wheels. I use it and they stay cleaner much longer. See this...

v12 brake dust

I have a V12 Vantage with ceramics and brake dust is NEVER an issue. For street driving the lack of dust is the main advantage.

If you have excessive dust with carbons something is likely not right.

I have heard the Armour All product works really well.

FWIW I have tried the Armor All protectant and was not impressed... IMHO does not live up to the hype.

Carbon brakes are not the same as carbon ceramic or carbon metallic or organic brake pad compounds used with conventional rotors, they work a totally different way. Carbon rotors do not operate in the same manner as conventional rotors. OP get a set of porterfield r4s and you will be happy with those on your vantage, they were the best option for my DB9 very happy with their low dusting and great performance!

I have a Gallardo and OEM pads were very dusty. I replaced them with Girodisc magic pads (ceramic) and now have zero dust and no squealing with the original metal rotors. I am going to purchase a V8V soon and plan to change the pads as soon as possible. I can't stand dirty wheels. Any other options beside Porterfield R4S made for the V8V/V8 S?

^^^ Porterfield R4S are the best option, I've tried EBC reds and they were horrendous squeel unbearable...with the R4S on my DB9 I am a happy camper, low dust, no squeel, excellent performance on the street.
