DBS Performance Questions

I know the DBS isn't really a car you consider if pure performance is what you're after, but I'm still curious what all is available to stay somewhat competitive with the new cars on the road today?

From what I gathered, parts that are readily available such as an ECU tune/exhaust combo could boost power to 550hp, but is there anything else available in this limited market? Do they make headers for these cars? I would assume some proper headers could pick up another 30 hp? I think I'd take a serious look at this car if I could squeeze out a TRUE 580hp from that V12.

I think RSC will be offering headers and cats. You might want to check out the Aston forum on pistonheads.com where there is a lot of traffic about V12 mods by Bamford Rose an ex Aston engineer.

Headers will be the #1 mod for the V12s, ECU tune #2, Cats #3.

I don't see why 580HP isn't possible, and that may be conservative. 600HP may even be quite doable without opening up the motor with the right setup.

The Aston 6L v12 can easily support 600 naturally aspirated bhp and probably even more however to do that it need to flow better and may need some stronger internals, if your looking to mod a v12 why not get a 2005 db9 and work it. Same engine and less upfront cost. There is a member here in uk who is building his db9 volante at bamford rose and is attaing his goals of massive hp/tq well over 600, it's a nice v12, and remember the dbr9 that Aston raced for years over in LeMans and euro GT with lots of success, yep same engine 6L AM V12... Not much different then the road car just worked over for racing.

I appreciate the feedback from all of you! I checked out the AM forums on Pistonhead and saw a couple of the build threads on the V12, so it certainly does look like there is a lot of potential with this engine. I just wasn't sure what the aftermarket was like for this car since it's obviously a very small market and Google searches didn't turn up much, but Bamford Rose seems like a top notch outfit for these cars.

I have thought about the DB9 as well, as the DBS really does command a hefty premium. It's just those subtle exterior styling bits on the DBS that might make me crazy enough to maybe want to pay that premium. If the DBS exterior bits could be fitted to the DB9 that would be something I would consider, but fitment/finding parts I'm sure would be a pain, plus the whole stigma that goes along with that.

Still brainstorming all options right now, but will definitely wait until next spring/summer to see where DBS prices are at. I'm hoping with the new DB9 and Vanquish this will drive prices down a little farther? I guess the big question is how much. Thanks again.

^^^ get the DB9, you can trick it out with bits from RSC to make it look like a DBS...at the end of the day, same chassis, same engine. DBS gets some external bits, intake, different backbox, and tune. If you're going to leave it stock go for DBS if you can, if you're going to modify, it's a no-brainer to start with a DB9.

Boo I'm in the process of having the dealership write me a check for my 09 6speed DBS and I'm being taken to the cleaners if you know what I mean haha... The reason for the liquidation is I need to raise capital for a real estate deal before new years and I have run out of time to do a private sale. I can discuss this with you further and you can get a DBS for the price of a DB9. PM me soon or email me at wallstreeter@gmail.com
