Aston Special Tools
Hi,
I need to drop the subframe on a DBS 2009, manual says to use "303-1080 (Engine Support Adaptor)" for supporting the engine.
There's a CAD drawing on page 20-1-6 of the DB9 manual showing some brackets but I have no clue what's their rough dimensions and where it mounts between the engine and some frame piece.
I'm planning to make some equivalent brackets but where do they go? Anyone have a pic of the brackets installed on the car?

Thanks,

Hi RichardD, thanks for the list, that can be very useful. I tried to cross reference to Ford/Volvo/LR but no luck. May be because the AM V12 block and heads are unique to AM and the engine bay shape as well.
Hi Irish07, I read your post "support the engine from the top via strut towers. Most of the generic braces are by A-frames and will go on the wings/fenders, resulting in cracking them. The aston support bar/tool, bolts to the strut brace mounts for support the engine" so I'm guessing the cross brace needs to be removed and replaced by the special tool, right? But how does the engine get attached to the special tool/brace? Do you have a picture?
Thanks,
F

Yes, the crossbrace needs to be removed but not the black support mounts at top of strut tower. The engine brace would bolt to these special brackets, that bolt to the black strut tower cross brace supports..I've used standard A frame legs on the engine brace before, you just need to relocate the A/C line and tape the strut tower to avoid scratching. There's not a lot of room between the wing and strut tower, but enough clearance for the A frame on a Vanquish I pulled the subframe to install headers..was a pucker factor, I wouldn't do it again unless no other choice.
At the VAP shop, we don't have the actual special tool, we simply made our own to fit an OTC engine brace. Just welded 3 small pieces of steel and drilled through and attach bolts to strut mounts and bolts to engine brace, the "tool" just adapts the angle of the engine support brace(completely flat) to the strut tower angle (descending angle towards wings).

Thanks Capt. C. I’m pretty sure these are 80’s V8 Vantage and Wedge Lagonda. I’m making some of the missing ones that I’ve already identified but I really need the catalogue list like Richard D posted.

No way to know for sure without handing over some £££. Great project, though.
Hi,
did you solve your problem? I'm in the same dilemma. I suppose the smaller adaptors should be fixed to the top of the towers onto the three existing bolts of the current brackets, i.e, in place of those brackets sitting there. Their upper ears go to the slots in the top of the bigger adaptors. Then the bigger adaptors should be fixed to the first two bolt holes on the top outer edge of the cylinder head. These threaded holes are just below the line between the cylinder head and camshaft cover, behind the plastic "channel" for the wiring harness. I used these threaded holes for fixing the front "Engine Lifting Brackets/Eyes" (43-27946) when I needed to lift my engine from the my DB9.
Do you have any other idea, or solution?
Thank you for your help,
paul

Agree with Irish. I have full set of special tools required till DB11 and New Vantage incl AMDS, AMDS2, Picoscope system, taken over from the bankrupted dealer, which I wanted to sell. Very little interest and no serious buyers in Europe. So I will keep them in my home museum :-).
