07 V8V Sport**** - proper shift method?

Greetings,

I'm a long time lurker finally pulled the trigger on an 07 V8V coupe SS. I will post pics shortly but had a question about shifting in sport mode.

The manual clearly states that you should 'keep the accelerator down when rowing through gears' however I found when I do this I get pretty abrupt shifts (head jerks etc).

If I lift off slightly on the gas, shift, then resume pressure...it seems to be much more smooth.

I guess my question is, what do you guys do? I want to prolong the life of the clutch as much as possible.

I'm also mostly driving through city traffic rarely going above 5K RPM..does the RPM point matter in what method you use to shift?

Additionally, anyone with the RSC TCU upgrade kit? I'v read that it's a must have for pre 08 SS's .. wondering if I should do this?

As Mikey said, lift off slightly as you upshift. You will find the shifts much better at full throttle if you wait until redline to shift up. I've also found downshifts are significantly smoother at above 2k rpm as well.

Mikey - I'm unsure if my clutch learn is working at all. I start the car with electronics off or on, it makes no difference on mine and keep my foot on the break. After neutral engages, I get a loud clunk that causes the lights to dim slightly on the starter button. I get the *same* noise and effect with my foot off the break and to be honest this sounds more like the alternator kicking in rather than the clutch learn.

I have the RSC TCU re-program and I think it is an absolute must on these cars. I have no official evidence but I am very confident it will greatly extend clutch life. Shifts are much firmer and quicker. Do a search of this forum for my review a few years back. Still loving it after a few years!!

Congrats on the new toy! Enjoy.

Great thanks for the info. I figured letting off slightly is better as that's how you drive a true manual. I will do the RSC upgrade eventually after I've been more acclimated with the car

Some pics, not the best but I'll post more in the main pic thread. Car is 2 tone black/orange with orange stitch and piano black finish. Went all blacked out on the exterior.

Every time I read these kind of threads I'm very glad mine is a 'row-your-own' manual trans.
