Aston vantage Oil Separator assy leak/install
Aston vantage Oil Separator assy leak/install
I have traced an oil leak to the oil separator. I saw a post saying this was easy to replace. I placed an order for the part and should be here in a few days. Can anyone walk me through changing this out? Do I need to drain the oil etc? What parts would I need besides the the actual oil separator itself.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Be sure to get the updated o-ring:
O RING 17.12 x 3mm FPM60 (AD23-3B9623-AA)
You may get a few drips of oil but the hoses & separator should be empty. Cover the work area just in case. Release clamp tension on the 3 hoses and pull them off. Next undo the hex bolt to release the OAS. Slowly work the OAS back and forth to remove from the block. Verify the new OAS has the updated O-ring. The updated version is thicker.

Resurrecting an old thread. The o-ring used to be about $1 according to Redpants blog posts. Now, scuderiaparts is quoting over $50, and the local dealer is quoting $40! For one o-ring! By the way, a new air oil separator does not come with the o-ring, confirmed by my dealer in discussing with AM. Does anyone know if there is a Jaguar equivalent? Where do you buy jag parts. I'm not finding a good parts catalog online to look up this o-ring. I'm going to check out auto parts locations too. Would love to hear your tips if you have any experience with this.
Thanks!

Wish I had skipped over this resurrected thread...reminds me that my experience was a PITA. About 18 months back I replaced the AOS on my 4.7, including the O ring. Turns out, despite assurances from the vendor/sponsor, the new O ring was identical to the OEM part it replaced. I too had tried to source just the updated O ring but no luck. Ultimately all is well insofar as no further leaking, and the AOS unit is cheap, but I should have bought from the local dealer and saved on shipping. Be extra careful about whether the O ring is in fact “updated”; replacement is straightforward but I did have a hard time with accessing one of the hose clamps.

On a related note, can someone measure the actual diameter of the updated O-ring? Is it actually 3 mm or is it 2.62 mm? 2.62 mm is much more common, less expensive (like $1.15 for 10!), and should be easily sourced from an o-ring supplier.

Following up on my last post. A fellow over at PH posted he has successfully used a 3 x 17 mm, non OE o-ring on his oil separator. One data point, but encouraging nevertheless...

FWIW just did my annual oil change and found gunk build up on AOS and hoses dripping down...
found the 3mm x 17mm o rings on line, 5 (minimum) shipped for $6... dealer wanted $38 plus tax and special order time...i think the best bargain I've spent on my Aston yet...
