Mirror Change??
Mirror Change??
Maybe a dumb question but thought I would ask.
Is it possible to change out mirror styles from my 05 to a new type? I get so much wind noise off of these some days. It really bothers my girlfriend.
ALTHOUGH it might be easier to change girlfriends.......

I'm gonna say cheaper too.
The only thing more expensive than changing girlfriends is changing wives. Mirrors are much further down that list.
As for your actual question...I have no idea, Irish probably knows.

If I fold in the mirrors the noise is gone completely. It seems like the noise is cutting through where the mirror folds in, the gap in the mirror. I'll do some more testing but of course the girlfriend has it today..
Well at least I have her new Q5.

this is interesting...never thought about the ability to swap a late model DB mirror assembly into the '05 model year, the attachment points look similar.

What year are we trying to update to, because I believe anything 12 and up my not fit. I will need to check parts and workshop books to see if there the same. The other issue my be door modules. There was a update to door modules and if you have a older module they may not work with the mirror. But again I will need to confirm this.

I do have clear bra on my mirrors. That can cause the issue? Hmm. Maybe I'll have to peel it off. This winter I believe I am going to get it wrapped in blue and orange/gulf racing color wrap.
AMFixer, it is an 2005.

not buying the possibility that a thin film is going to change aerodynamics of a mirror........uh huh.......I speak from a half lifetime in aeronautics.......I swear I don't know how some of this stuff gets started..........
Like the above post with painters tape..it's what I do all the time to diagnose wind noises. Apply tape in area's of concern, pull pieces away in small sections untill you hear the noise again..then fix the area.
BTW, only noises I've heard in that area is from the window seal like AMFixer stated...by folding the mirror, air flow is changed and possibly causes the air flow over the seal to re-direct..long shot, but anything is possible..I'd try the tape first
If it is the mirror gap and you don't need to have manual fold..bring them to a body shop and close up the seams and make it all 1 piece.
If you want to convert to the newer larger mirrors, you could..same mounting, same fitment just you would have to cut and solder on the old connector to the new mirror assembly..wiring is different and mirrors would work like your old style operates..no power fold unless you convert the door modules to the newer type...
