Rotor Question
Rotor Question
Did another manufacturer, such as Jaquar, or any other manufacturer use the same rotors that our cars come with from the factory? I am going to need new rotors in the coming months and was looking into a bit less expensive option. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Straight brembo replacements or you could call a company that doesn't invest in advertising as much, like Carbotech, StopTech, EBC or Porterfield.
Aston Martin employed a unique design on the front caliper of the V8 Vantage S and Rapide. I think Range Rover uses the same weird design. However, the rotors are a standard size and relatively easy to replace.
What model are you working with?

Sorry Fubar if I forgot to mention that I am working with a V8 Vantage. I have looked at some spare rotors I have from other makes of cars and the diameter, thickness and bolt circle are exactly the same as the newer 370Z Akebono brake rotors. 355mm diameter, 32mm thick and 5X4.5" bolt circle and 68mm hub diameter(68.08 with a bit f massaging on my mill) I will pull the caliper and rotor to mic the hat backspacing. This is the critical "what if" to this equation. If they are the same, the 370Z rotors are $200 for the pair.
Karlfranz, I saw those beautiful rotors, and while they are very nice units, $2000 for the pair is hardly a "less expensive" option.

Let us know what you find out, because I'm most interested in the topic.
If you need new brake pads and want to save a few bucks, I have a nearly new set of EBC Reds for all four wheels (V8 Vantage) that have 9 miles on them. They didn't play well (squealed like mad) with the material already on my rotors so I pulled them off and put them back in the box rather than re-surfacing my stock rotors to give a fresh surface. Make you a good deal on them if interested.
I have ordered a set of used 370Z rotors to cross fit. The hat dimensions are almost identical! As for the pads, I might be interested. I will pm you when I have access to my laptop this evening. I will post results when I get the rotors in!

I'm almost due for my rear brakes and I started looking around and so far no luck yet. I took my DB9 to a Jag specialist once for front brakes and he was saying they are the same as XKR (didn't mention which gen) but I ended up doing it at the dealer. Good luck with your search and keep us posted.

Offset is going to be the big question.
The nice things about two piece rotors is the disc replacement is usually a lot cheaper. I bought the Brembo two piece set for the rear of V8-S to help with cooling (it hurt to write that $1,700 check) but I can replace those disc now for under $400 and they are a significant improvement over stock. The front rotors are already two piece so I can just change out the disc up there.

Thanks for the compliment on the rotors! They are still not in the region of $200, but the price is actually for all 4 rotors, a full vehicle set F&R.
During development one of the things we continually emphasized was that quality could not be compromised. With something like brakes, which are such an important safety item, and which can be subjected to very high heat stresses, we decided that there was no room for compromise on materials.
So they are not 'cheap' in that sense, but I think considering the weight savings, the future reduction in replacement cost and the improvement in ride quality, they do offer a good value proposition
Of course, I am biased!

I posted on this site before I started the process of replicating and replacing parts. I also looked on your website but didn’t see anything about Aston brake options.
Do you have pads available for the V8V-S? If so, tell me about your options.

These are the rotors we developed. I should list them separately (F&R) as well as in a full vehicle set. Considering that you V8VS guys get 2-piece as standard for the front, I could see a demand for just the rears.
Pads I will need to double check. The rears, definitely. I offer the Porterfield R4-S pads, in fact I think everyone who has bought rotors has bought these as well.
The fronts I will need to check with Porterfield, but I would be surprised if they don't have that pad available. I'm a big fan of the R-4S, the difference in dust is MAJOR and without compromising road use.

Looks like a nice set. I noticed that the image has a 12 point floating rotor, I assume this means the Brembo Disc are not interchangeable. I like the things I have read about Brembo’s new slot design.
I contacted Proterfield about the front brakes on the V8V-S, they do not offer a replacement pad, although they did say they could make a copy of an original set.

Well guys, I have a bit of bad news..... I got a used 370Z rotor in Friday and after measuring and fitting, the Z rotor is 2mm too shallow for our hub! The hub opening is only 66.1mm and the Aston hub bore is 68.08. That's an easy fix with a lathe.....But the hat offset is 2mm too shallow, so the brake caliper won't line up exactly evenly with the pads. There is no left or right adjustment whatsoever with the radial mounted calipers, so it's a no go on the 370Z rotor. SO CLOSE!!! I have contacted Stuart at Velocity for a set of 2 piece rotors all around and just be done with it. I will post pictures of the install. Hopefully they will arrive this week along with my new 20" wheels. Pics to follow!

Bummer about the 370 rotors. Its almost worth ordering a set for that kind of money. Unfortunately, the only place that makes our rotors is AM and Brembo, which are both very expensive.
