Aston struggling
The One-77 is an investment in the company's future. If accounting ran the company it would have never been produced. It is seduction pure and simple, we all want what we can't have... And yes, I feel privileged that a car I drive is remotely connected with the One-77.
Hey look, it's the new Aston Martin 458 MP12C. It's ****e bundled into today's stance du jour. Much as I don't lust the One-77 styling, it's leaps beyond that unimaginative pastiche.
And no, I don't feel any contact high from the One-77 because no one has heard of it or seen one (outside of people who already know Astons any want them).
We are looking at 2014 Vantages on showroom floors. Where it's he halo effect? What has trickled down from the One-77? Pretty much nothing. That is what I'd call wasted R&D.

Hopefully the R&D will show itself.
Racer, why do you think the One-77 wouldn't perform comparably to the F12? The power and weight numbers seem to be there. BTW, I think the One-77 looks much better than the mid-engined design proposal.

Imagine this for a moment. What if the One77 was the Vanquish and the One77 never existed. I'd bet the press would give it much more accolades with 750hp, 220mph top speed, respectable 0-60, etc.
One-77 Trickle Down? You can buy the trick steering wheel and retrofit it for half a gazzilion dollars.
I head there are (3) One-77's in the USA. Jay Leno has a blue one, Ralph Lauren a black one, then one un-identified. I have no basis in fact other than its what the Aston dealer told one day.

It would be extraordinary. But, it's not a Vanquish or even F12 level car -- it's way beyond that. Perhaps the power figures are "merely" a bit bigger than the F12's, but look at the construction of the One-77. All that carbon fiber structure, the suspension, the many, many details that are just exquisite. The detailing is more like a Pagani than an F12. If they sold it at the Vanquish -- or F12 -- price, they'd be in greater difficulty than they are now.

Don't cover the car in carbon and stay with "cheaper" panels to keep costs down. For the interior, just use the current Vanquish interior. Basically it's a One-77 outside look with the One-77 heart but with the Vanquish interior and production costs (outside the heart so add another 100k to the price tag). The car's are both based off the VH platform so it doesn't seem that far fetched to me.
Sure, the One-77 is an amazing car, but there is no halo effect. As was stated earlier by IbisRider, the only people that know this car exist are probably a fraction of Aston owners..., basically, a small niche, inside of a niche, inside of a niche, inside of a niche.
And I'd suggest that only a small portion of those people even wanted one (just for collector purposes, not even to actually drive it).
