My cheapest performance upgrade
My cheapest performance upgrade
Back in college, my roommates and I had a filtered water bottle we kept in the fridge that we just kept refilling from the tap. I always found it amusing when we would have company over and after drinking from that bottle would comment on how much better it tasted than that nasty city tap water.
So, based on that experience, I decided to do a little experiment recently as seen pictured below. So far, several strangers have complimented my car saying that the sound and power coming from my mighty V12 engine is epic. The power of suggestion is a strong force to the unknowing. As I said before: cheapest upgrade ever.

I heard every Mugen sticker you put on your car adds 3 HP. True Story.

Badging
The Hybrid badge was from a Toyota on my 87 928S4 which actually was a Hybrid... it had a 480HP Chevy V8. I also was considering a V12 on the V8, but I don't like more badging on the Vantage. My first one I ordered from the factory with a badge delete option.
Tell me you guys have seen this:

Faux Paux! You can't put a emblem on a car that shows it to be more than what it is, Karl - you can only put on lesser emblems (its a rule, I just follow it, didn't write it).
When I was 17 years old I removed the "440" emblems from my Plymouth Road Runner and replaced them with the more common and slower "383" ones. Won more $ 10 street races that way <g>
When I was 23, I removed the 911 S emblem off my Porsche and replaced it with 912. Many a Corvette wondered how that 4 cylinder German car destroyed them.
In my 40's, I took all the M3 badging off my BMW and has a buddy of mine in Europe sent me over factory emblems that said 316 tds, which was the slowest car BMW made on that 3 series chassis - a diesel. Had huge fun with that at the Driver's Schools and it confused the BMW dealership something terrible.
Dunno what to put on the Vantage, since I already have the lowest engine they make. Maybe "This vehicle runs on Natural Gas" or is that too wordy?

I bought that 1970 911S as a college kid, with money I had saved up from being a mechanic in a Yamaha shop (and selling my '63 Split Window Corvette). It had 22K miles on it when I bought it in 1975 and I had never known about Porsches until I got a ride in one, then I was hooked.
I drove that car as hard as anyone could. 22 year old motorhead that only knew one speed... floored. I look back on that abuse heaped on that 911 and still marvel how it didn't blow up. I had the engine /trans rebuilt at 138,000 miles (valve guides, rings, new synchros) and drove it to 232,000 miles before trading it in on something with air conditioning - the new Mazda RX7 that had just come out. I was totally bored with the RX7 and sold it off in 6 months to get into a 1973 911T, but that car was anemic and choked with emissions compared to my '70 'S'.
Imagine what my old 911S is worth today if its still around....
