Searching around the site and surprised there isn't a road trip forum on 6speed.
We are shipping the Vantage along with a Porsche up to DC with plans to drive one way thru the mountains back to South Florida.....
Just set up the shipping and purchased the flight for Nov 14th ...
Our "general" direction is as follows:
DC, Luray, Stuanton, Boone, Asheville, Helena, Athens, Macon,,,,,, home....
We allotted 5 days for the trip but will spend more time if desired ...
Any suggestions greatly appreciated ..
Thanks

Going on the Auto Train out of Sanford, yes? To Lorton VA (about 3 miles from my house).
If you're staying in DC a few days, go to Cars and Coffee in Great Falls VA on Saturday morning the 16th. The place is just dirty with rare, high line cars (about 400), but you have to be there by 7 a.m. or you won't get a parking spot (its all over by 9 a.m).
One of the most beautiful drives in Virginia is the short road from Middleburg VA to The Plains VA "The Plains Road". Middleburg is quite quaint as an 'old money' village and you'll drive right by Robert Duvall's estate as you get near The Plains.
The leaves will be off the trees by the time you get here in mid-Nov. Take RT 211 from Winchester to Luray, over the mountain if there is no snow on the ground. Spectacular turns!
If you plan to drive Skyline / Blue Ridge Parkway for some of the trip, the road is only so-so, mind the potholes, pavement is kinda rough in most places.
If you're going to Asheville and into Georgia, you MUST go into the Smokeys and do The Dragon in each direction then go drive the Cherohala Skyway to Tellico Plains. Once you get to Tellico, look for the bakery behind the gas station and go get a $ 5 apple turnover there. If its not the best apple turnover you ever ate, I'll paypal you the five bucks

Thanks for the info....
That run across the Skyway to Tellico is fantastic ... In full disclosure I have done the area SW of Asheville many times on "two" wheels ...
Decided not to take the train - shipping enclosed trailer from my house to a friends house in Annapolis .... I heard a few nightmare stories about the train so paid a bit more for shipping ....
We only have a week so cant stay in town for cars and coffee but sounds interesting ...
