Random quirks

got the 09 vantage coupe,...

when its hot out and using AC on high, i turn off car and hear the water dripping from the AC hitting the exhaust before it drips on the ground, checked the fluid and it's def just water.. but odd that they would put the condenser above the exhaust manifold? is this normal or a problem?

dont notice much else besides the very annoying key situation where it needs a second to breathe before you can turn on... or if you turn car to ACC on then it doesnt wanna turn on for a lil longer delay..

No worries, this is normal for millions of cars on the road.

Also door arm rests are loose. Looks like nuts are missing from inside handle. I assume those Allen bolts come off and the. Can add nuts on those screws from open backside?

Bizarre how they are gone but never know with British cars.

Door locks also odd. One click unlock driver. But two clicks sometimes doesn't unlock both. Pass door wants to stay locked maybe low battery on the fob?

Appreciate all the help!!

Never had before. Seems like it would temper the exhaust metal. And hisses loud when you turn car off and it's dripping

This thread has instructions on how to access those door arm rest nuts. The metal handle comes off and then you can get to the nuts on the padded arm rest.

Thank you guys. I'm sorry for the questions.

The AC is intermittent (super cold then meh. Then cold. Then like then cold) I assume maybe a recharge? Is the recharge easy on Aston (can I go to an AC pro place) or it is over the bridge and thru the woods.

Again much appreciated. I wish one day I can help others once I learn.

Most fun part today is finding the bass and treble settings while in XM mode. Lol.

Buying everyone a beer that's helped. Sorry for the hassle

Vehicle has USB (iPhone 5 says "unreadable" but charges)

Vehicle has another multi prong hole but no cable. Am I guessing right to think this cable only comes 30 prong and not lightning (will it even work with the 30>>lightning adapter from apple ) ... Serious prong. To 30 pin. To lightning! Jeez. I wish the car just had AD2P

below is the input for the ipod, i wonder if volvo makes a cable that might have lightning end versus 30pin?

a cheaper "volvo' version of this!

http://astonmartinbits.com/models/3-DBS/parts/584

they surely cant be the only brand that makes a weird ipod plug versus using the usb.

it always seems 1 step forward 2 steps back.

i tightened down the arm rest (awesome)... but coming home from dinner tonight, the door latch wouldnt work inside the car, i had to open the door from the outside with window down..

took the aluminum piece off and the part that stays stationary on the pull.. was not broken at all. but was slipping off the steel "L" bracket..

i bent the bracket somewhat more than 90* and then loosened the torx and made it the proper length.... it works now, but surely keeping an allen wrench in the car just incase... worst case scenario i can put a box of some type in there to keep the "stationary" part from slipping off the "L".... ironically the door pull being something you need in the most dire of straits, i'm surprised of the cheap/flimsy plastic piece that allows it to work... i feel metal would be better as it would suck to be stuck inside the car in a wreck.

.. regarding iphone, still cant find a cable besides the oem 30 pin,

.. the AC is still intermittent, i feel it needs to be recharged,

..the AC water dripping on header still bothers me as it's loud when you stop... you can hear the water hissing off the red hot headers.

my door was loose but i tightened the latch and it's good now.

little things that the original owner never thought to do i guess... i think i might have bent the "L" in the door while tightening the nuts for the arm rest so that was my fault... the rest is minor.

FWIW those bolts/nuts for the arm rests are M4-7.. i used nylon locking ones but scraped em out a lil so it wouldnt detatch whatever holds the bolt part into the leather/padding.

Perhaps a non-aston mechanic at one point worked on the car for some reason in its 4 year past and did not tighten the bolts correctly? My 09 does not have that problem

i feel it's just the nature of a "hand built" car... and also the lack of building "hundreds of thousands" of cars a year like other brands... where quirks show up quicker in the bunches..

the nuts that hold the door arm rests on are not locking, not nylon threaded.. just nuts so i assume with miles/vibrations they worked themselves loose...

when i removed the aluminum door pull, and tightened the new nuts (nylon threaded from home depot, M4-7) i feel i might have "bumped" the L bracket that holds the "stationary" part of the door pull and therefore when i opened the car door later it "slid off"... i adjusted the "L" and it no longer "popped off" but just to make sure this never happens in an emergency i did myself one better and created a "guarantee"...

i was going to 3D print this with a help of a friend, but it's never going to be seen, so my boyscout poor widdling skills came to play (below)..

i made the wood look better after i got the size right, but it basically prevents that plastic piece (that doesnt even have a cotter pin or any retention device) from ever coming out of the metal "L"..

everything bolts back up fine and works as it should... the pull on the drivers side seems a little harder than pass side so i assume their is something binding up or unlubed somewhere.. but removing the door card (surprisingly easy.. 4 T20 bottom, 2 T20 mid door... lay on ground and remove the plugs for windows/puddle light, pull up to remove (put window down before any of thise otherwise door card will never want to go back on)..

the door lock mech is hard to access but doesn't look like anything is wrong... just age i assume, but door works perfect now.. just maybe 30% more pulling force needed to pop the door,...

as far as other "quirks".....

-need to adjust headlight beams (they are too low)
-need felt pads for the magnets in center console lid. (loud snap magnet on magnet)
-adjusted gas door lid (was slightly off center, the torx bolts just loose on the hinge)
-had wind noise drivers side window, i adjusted the up/down on window.. but it was the latch that was slightly off (door stuck out 2mm from body line).. i adjusted the latch outwards and now door stis flush and body lines match up and no wind noise.

only other problem still is:
squeaky brakes, which i read is very normal.. when i have time i plan to remove all the brake pads and chamfer the edges, oddly the oem pads have squared off edges and i've always had squeaks from that... other pads usually have a beveled edge and no squeaking.... i will do the parking brake pads at the same time i feel...
