V8 vantage cuts out?

Hi guys Im looking for a technocrat please? had my vantage idling on the driveway today all ok... then I opened the petrol cap to add gas from a container, it started to idle ruf and died? why? does the closed loop system have an impact?
I started it after closing the cap and its fine?? any comments appreciated

vacuum leak. gas cap is needed to seal the system. that's why the emissions light probably came on too, right?

You probably would also trigger an emissions system error as well. That's why even with the cap on and not properly closed it will trigger emission error on modern cars.

thanks guys Im not sure if the light came on? i was not in the car so if I read you guys correct it is normal for it to die if gas cap is open?

The system is extremely sensitive to vapor leaks. It will trigger an emissions warning light. As for dying, that's somewhat surprising. I didn't realize it was THAT sensitive.
