Is the price of the warranty negotiable? I can't believe someone would get a 1 yr just one year ago for 2,800 and today it's 4,500 for the same coverage...

Edit: I suppose he had 13k miles this one had 17.5, but it's still hard to see how that makes such a large difference.

The factory warranty I offered with my car cost around $4000. In the end, the buyer opted not to get it. Today, apparently, he had changed his mind and wanted to purchase it but it was too late as the bank paperwork had already been done.

Yes, Fil told me once the car leaves the lot I would need to get it inspected again to be able to buy the warranty, so I'll need to make up my mind by likely tomorrow afternoon at the latest. The one year sounds feasible... the two year not so much. Decisions decisions...

Midwest,.
You get the same coverage as if you'd bought the car from the main dealer once it's past the inspection, However, I know the extended warranty coverage changes depending on the age of the car, so this may be why you are seeing no oil leak coverage. I know that more is covered in years 4 and 5 cover than in years 6 and 7 for example.

Midwest,
I just bumped an old thread where I posted my actual extended warranty paperwork for you to review. It specifically lists oil leaks as being covered.

Best, FF

but the oil leak repair wouldn't be $4k would it? I wonder if this particular leak WOULD be covered since it's a known issue and even has a service bulletin o it.

I had the AM, warranty. As has been said, they are a little different warranty based on the "in service" time of the car. Costs may also be different, based on that.

My warranty did cover the oil leak. I could dig out the cost of the repair, but it was roughly equal to the warranty cost. The parts are fairly cheap , the labor was a lot.

There are different warranty levels so best check on which one is being sold. The Premium is about $2k but does not cover leaks, electronics, hoses, etc. The Plus warranty is $4500-5000 and is about the same as a new-car warranty. Ask the dealer for the extended warranty paperwork.

I've attached a copy of the Premium & Plus warranties from 2013.

I opted not to buy the warranty despite AM of DC pushing it hard (I should have been suspicious). Since the $4500 only covered me for a year and I wasn't sure how long I'd keep the car I instead banked the cash. Recently had the timing cover fixed along with annual service and although it was bittersweet, I'm still net-positive on not buying the warranty.

This is interesting, the CPO I got . also provides for roadside assistance. As stated earlier, it doesn't cover wear items which I knew going in. My thought was since I didn't pay extra for it. Wasn't too concerned.

Well, technically Chris, you did pay extra for it. It was just burried in the purchase price.

I would suppose the dealer offers higher coverage (premium) on their CPO cars, because the 07' at los gatos comes with a 1yr premium, and I'm only able to buy the plus coverage through the dealership on this MY08. I would be on board with a year of premium, but the plus just cuts too many things out for how pricey it is I think...

I'm petty sure that you have the plus & premium warranties reversed. Premium is the more expensive, higher-coverage policy.

You are correct. Plus < Premium.

Update on the PPI for the 08:

Looks like I'll be running - not walking - from this one. Here are the top-line issues:

1) The mis-alignment of the driver side rear tail lamp is a result of body and paint work. No definitive answer on if it was in an "accident", but there is flaking and chipping paint where the tail lamp meets the rear QP, so there has been paint work on the car.
2) Clutch is slipping - smells very bad.
3) The timing chain cover oil leak is present.
4) Tires have < 25% tread and are dry-rotted so bad the tech had to baby it on a test drive.
5) Wheels are bent as there is significant vibration in the steering wheel (a hint at this is the number of wheel weights in some of the pictures... yikes)
6) Oil was very dirty and likely not serviced for many years.

Once Fil mentioned the first thing on the list (paint work) I knew it was over, but the rest of the things just really hammer it home. No use in negotiating for this car because no way in hell do I want to buy it after learning all that.

Big thanks to Fil @ Napletons AM in Chicago for doing such a fantastic job on the PPI! He also offered to give me a reduced cost PPI if I found another AM in Chicago I needed to have inspected in the future. And thanks to all of you as well - this inspection was money WELL spent!
