Love my vantage roaster but regret not getting 6mt

It was almost impossible to find a 6mt roadster last year when I looking.

I found an 08 roadster that I love driving. Looks great feels great. I've had nothing but compliments but I totally regret not getting a 6mt!

Anyone else in the same boat?

It is really sad that the 'stick' is being dropped by so many sports car companies.. Bright side is I hear Jag is going to put a stick in the F Type. Yay!!! The mid range 'sport' F Type with a manual would be a GREAT car for the money. Reality is that so few people who can afford a $100k+ car can drive stick.

I actually have received compliments on my V8V just on the fact it was a manual transmission.

True story... Last weekend the valet needed to move my car only about 10ft from its space so I could get in... (Different valet than who parked it). He sat there for 30 seconds... I walked over. He couldn't start it. I said did you push the clutch down? "Oh, I didn't realize it was a stick shift"...

I said 'get out of my car' ... very nicely of course.

After all the horror stories I always read about valets, why do so many of you let them park your cars? I would never let one of those guys near my exotics. Is it that much of a convenience? Please educate me.

If there is an event that's valet only, I'd either

- Park on the street
- Park on another lot
- Not go to the event

I would never ever hand off the keys to my fragile Aston to a valet.

As far as m/t ... I regret not getting one either. Especially now that the Aston is not my daily driver anymore.

My comment to the Valet: "Show me where you want me to park it, your tip will be the same as if you parked it" Usually they say, "Oh just put it right here in front!"

Oh I'm with you. I'll hesitantly let them park my DD but I actually used to be a valet for over a year in my early twenties... I never messed with peoples cars but some of my coworkers would really thrash some of them. I'm talking starting it up with the foot planted on the accelerator so it bounces off the rev limiter, ripping around the garage (until the final stretch), slamming doors, breaking ignitions from turning them so hard, etc. It was not only physically demanding but could be quite frustrating during rushes.

If I ever had to valet my Aston, bet your *** I'm telling the attendant to clear a spot up front so I can park it myself

I am typically a 99.9% non valet guy. I have seen how they thrash cars in the back of the lot. (usually where I park).

But for this one resteraunt they literally just park it 10ft from where I get out for the 'rock star' spot. And I have known the two usual valets for years.

BUT this one day they left a rookie on duty!

Back to topic... Manual transmissions need a marketing team to get them back on the map! Make it sexy to shift gears!

If it's only 10ft, why not pay them and ask to park it yourself?

I have learned to be OK with my sportshift but have wondered about 6mt. I always drive mine like a manual and it's quite involved. I think the problem is that most people I know under 40 has never owned a manual car. I know how to drive one fairly well but not comfortable having my first manual car be an Aston. Not the type of car I would want to practice with. I would imagine a lot of people fall into my category. I had fun with rental cars in Europe

I was going to wait for the F-Type coupe with a stick, so it would be a garage mate for my 1965 E-Type coupe. But this 2007 Vantage came along, and the dealer would call me every time they got a Vantage used with a stick. This is the same dealer that I bought my 2011 Lotus Evora from, and they were the same dealer that also has the Jaguar franchise. I had talked with them about ordering an F-Type. Plus I think the F-Type would have cost around $ 80-90k, and I paid 1/2 price for my Vantage. But at the end of the day, I have always loved the Aston Martin Vantage. I could not swing a new one so I bought a used one. The only way I would buy a Vantage was if it was a stick, all of my cars are sticks. I know I am a dinosaur about this point. But oh well.
