Can't get wipers into Service Position - Suggestions??
Trying to change the Wipers on my 2005 DB9. I have seen the FAQ and other posts that say that there is a special service method:
- Car off
- Press 8 and 9 on the center console
- Turn key to position 2
I've done this a few times, no luck. Even found a youtube video showing the exact process on an 06 Vantage
Wipers are working when I turn them on, so that's not it.
Buttons 8 and 9 are working on the Stereo, when I try them with the car on, it changes to my FM preset 8 or 9.
It was suggest by AstonDoc to try popping the hood release while the wipers are running, since the system is programmed to stop the wipers if the hood is open. Tried this, but the wipers still return tot eh parked position before they stop running.
I can change the passenger side with them in the parked position, but not the long 24" drivers side.
Is there a different procedure for the earlier cars? Mine was made in Dec 2004 I think.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

A good suggestion, but I am 100 miles from the nearest dealer and have the blades already. Hoping to find away to do it in house.

With the car running and wipers going just turn the car off when the wipers are at the right position and they will quit at that spot . May take a couple of tries to anticipate the right stop point .

I assume you have an aftermarket blade. A factory blade will fit without using "wiper service" mode. You could remove the wiper arm to change it, just make sure it gets refit in the same position. 100mi is not far. Sounds like good drive time.

Factory blades. I know I can get the passenger side swapped just fine, but having a challenge with the Drivers side since its so much longer and the arm is more restricted under the bonnet.
100 miles on nice roads would be great, but the last 30 for me to reach the nearest dealer is the San Francisco Bay area traffic, and that's not a pleasure.

Don't open the hood, if it's a factory wiper, you only need to lift the arm a few inches to perform the swap.

Try pressing them on Ign #1 position for 8+9 and then while holding turn to Ign #2..
But I rarely use service mode for factory wipers. Like J DoubleU stated..you can get the driver and passenger blade off with bonnet close. I just open the lock clip and then slide blade from clip, turn clip almost vertical and remove blade...reverse to install
