How much oil does your V8V burn
How much oil does your V8V burn
I change my oil once a year and buy a case. that gives me two quarts as spares. half way into the year, I put a quart in and just checked it as I was going to go a few extra months and the level is not even touching the bottom of the dips stick. I think I might have 3000 miles per year... so, is a quart every 1500miles excessive?
Mine seems to be burning through a lot of the new BMW Twinpower M-car oil, along the same lines of a quart/1500-miles. I'm going to be switching back to the Castrol unicorn blood and to see if is the oil or my engine that's most to blame.
I need to get myself a supply of oil, though my '15 seems to be way better about it than my '11 was.
I've searched the forums numerous times, but what *EXACTLY* is the oil I should keep in stock at home to top up the OEM oil?
Thanks.

I do all the time for my Porsche race car... but , not on the Aston. figure its not in any danger yet of "issues".. I should do it, just for grins.
interesting that the oil burn is so high. 1 quart for 1500miles seems like a lot. usually, if there is no smoke, its rings letting things by and burning it up out the pipe, slowly. no leaks.. clean as a whistle underneath the car

I'm curious if you do low mileage in a perticular year and change oil do you replace the filter and clean the two metal strainers as well?
I have done less than 1000 miles with mine in the last 12 months and agree I will change the oil, but I'm thinking its a waste to pull the filter, what do you think?
Car not tracked but I do drive it enthusiasticly when I get it out, and it gets hot here sometimes.
I've seen Blackstone reports on oil but I honestly don't understand what I'm looking at on them.
I'll send in a sample of the BMW Twinpower oil. Just filled out the form for the sample kit. I'll send in the sample and post the results when I get them so you guys can interpret them lol.
Aston has officially been using Castrol Edge 10W60 (it's in the owner's manual).
It's the same stuff BMW used in their N/A M cars' V8 and V10 engines (M3 and M5/6) until recently.
BMW now uses a Shell-supplied oil which, logically, should be perfectly acceptable in the V8V.
I've noticed in an extremely unscientific manner that my car seems to be burning through more of the Shell oil than it seemed to burn of the Castrol oil.
Castrol's 'Edge' product line has been reshuffled, reformulated, and renamed so many times that the various lines within it are pretty much meaningless at this point. Edge, Edge Sport, Edge Professional... now some kind of Titanium buzzword nonsense...
All that said, any oil meeting minimum factory requirements (main one being SN rating) should be fine. Both the Castrol and Shell 10W60 oils used by BMW meet all of Aston's requirements.
There's tons of info on the forum for all of this if you want more detail.

Thanks, but I've searched through the threads an awful lot, and can't seem to simply locate which one I need to order.
I don't have the owners manual for my '15 and as far as I know, the oil that Aston use has now, as you've said, been renamed about 50 times, thus I'm utterly lost as to where I can buy/what particular oil to order.

as far as the filter.. I don't change it, as the oil doesn't look that dirty, but I do dump out any residual oil. im sure the filter will not clog and restrict flow on 3-10k miles of use.. after all, im only changing every year because of time (and oxidation due to time) not useage.
so, ill probably change the filter every 3 changes.
by the way..... I just checked the oil level again! GUYS, its true, you have to measure the oil level after the car is cold and you start it and run it for 30secs at 2000rpm and turn off. the level went from no reading , to 3/4 full... so I guess im not burning any oil. ive always noticed that hot level was not much different.. do you guys see the same thing. however, I never knew cold level migiht be way down to the point of NO reading on the dipstick.. interesting!
I drive the car fairly aggressively after it's fully warmed up .

When I got the car it had a Bosch oil filter on it , that crossed to a Fram PH 9010 so I used that . I did get an Aston Filter cheap on flea bay so I just used that but I will go back to the Bosch or Fram or K&N whatever I can get locally . It's just a filter so I'm not paying 50$ just to get an Aston part# painted on a K&N or whoevers filter it is and seeing as it gets changed way more frequently than actually required I'm not concerned .
Guys, mine is a part time toy as well. 3k miles a year and I change the oil every winter.

This probably has to do with the fact that it is a dry sump system.
