08 Vantage Questions

Hello all,

I'm currently bidding on this specific Aston here and was wondering if you guys had any insight of it. I read over multiple threads on what to look for and this one to my limited knowledge looks good but always want a second opinion of the car. Since it's a 08 it would seem there wouldn't be much of an issue with the gasket leaking but it doesn't have the 4.7L engine

When was it last serviced? The 30,000 mile service is due.
Was it done? If yes, ask to see the service report. If not, ask why it was not done. Find out if the present owner or a previous owner has the "minor" issue reported. What happened? You might Consider getting a PPI. Good luck in your search!

This statement in his listing is curious:
"Let it warm up for about 1 minute and it runs perfect"

Does that imply there is some sort of cold-start issue?

The AutoCheck shown on the page indicates a minor issue under Accidents. Do you know what that's about?

Vantagelvr - for the benefit of the OP can you please elaborate on your comment? Is there something specific about the 2008 Sportshift he/she needs to watch out for? The car is in San Francisco, and I've read here about how hard reversing on hills can be on the clutch in the Sportshift. Beyond that, is there something worse on 2008s?

I think the 1 minute warm up means it guarantees the clutch 'kiss' procedure has been done. I did the same with my 09 sportshift. Now I have a 15 v8 with sportshift.

Good point, could be as simple as that.

The seller responded, The 30k service has not been done and "The accident, according to the dealer I bought it from, was a bumper tap in the front. The hood was repainted and barely noticeable."

I had a light bumper tap. They repainted half my car to make it perfect. $18k in the paint job alone.

Repairs should be perfect, not 'barely noticeable'

Just my two pennies

Don't be in a rush to buy the first one you see . I spent 3yrs looking before committing to buy my 07 stick shift. I was looking for a different colour combination as everything seemed to be various shades of silver to black with black or hideous red interiors . I finally found my Toro red with sandstorm interior and the rest is history as they say . I Would never entertain a SS transmission , to many clutch issues and to me it defeats the object of owning one of the iconic Marques of the motor industry , it must be the purist driver in me .

A big +1 for me, my feelings exactly I know driving a stick shift is in the minority these days, but when you buy a car like this the feel and satisfaction you get from making your own shifts is indescribable. And my search was from 2006-2014. Although I was just looking casually and trying to decide whether or not I could afford a new Aston or used I wound up with used .
