I had my Aston at Road America today to watch a Chump Car race. My car was parked in the paddock for several hours and when I got back to it someone had put an AMOC magazine and business card under my windshield wiper. I had been thinking about joining and will probably call the guy who left the card but wondering if anyone here had anything to say about the club.
I was going to join until I discovered there are no AMOC events in my area. I talked with the guy responsible for my area and he keeps me in the loop for events and track days but there is nothing that's AM specific near Nashville TN.
Their website doesn't offer much better forums or information than this one. Check out aston-martin-club for manuals, AMOC doesn't provide them for free like AMC does.
That's the problem I ran into when I joined the Ferrari Club of America. No events in my area. Had to drive 100+ miles minimum to do anything. So I let my membership lapse after 1 year.
Although I seem to recall somewhat regular AMOC events at Road America, that's an awesome place and only 40 minutes or so from my house. I looked at the club web site and there are two events in my region, one is at Road America.
I've visited the AMOC forums and found some helpful info, but this place is better overall. Also got some manuals for aston-martin-club.
So I guess I'll give the guy a call and maybe join for a year and see how it goes. I've flushed $250 on worse things, I suppose.
I recently joined...received a *full package (mags, pin, decal to include monthly guides) and registration good until Dec 2017. Although U.K. based, the diary has several event days for the U.S. based chapters around the larger metropolis areas. I have friends in Teddington right outside London so ideally a visit to AM HQ, Newport Pagnell and stretch it out to Aston hill will be in store this summer...sans my DBS until I could afford to fly with such luxuries.
Has anyone on this board been to AM HQ? or Aston Works?
I'm a member. I first signed up three years ago so I could be a part of a trip to England for Aston's 100th birthday. Pretty amazing time, and well worth the membership dues to be a part of it (although the trip was still silly expensive).
I've kept my membership going just in case events pop up (going to the one at Lime Rock in June). Dealerships in the US typically give a 15% discount for parts, too.
I've been a member for years. There are 2 events in WI - Sussex in June and Elkhark Lake in July. The most northern IL event would be the LFSC Concours in Oct. Track day at Autobahn in May.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to join. I'll definitely go the the British Car Filed Day in Sussex.
At Elkhart Lake, does the club do anything besides the Saturday night sports car show? There are 3 other major car events here that weekend so I don't know if I can make that show. But it is an excellent time! 2 years ago my Ferrari won its class at the Elkhart show.
The Midwest chapter of the AMOC does a number of things during the Hawk Vintage Races at Elkhart Lake. Most Aston participants arrive on Friday. Some do track touring at lunch time. At 4:00p we gather at the beach of the Osthoff and have drinks and go for a swim in the lake. At 6:00p we watch the race cars come into town for their concours. At 7:00p we have dinner in town as a group.
On Saturday we usually do a drive and have lunch together. At 4:00p we all line up for the Sports Car Concours and park together in front of the Victorian Village resort. Around 5:30p we have cocktails and a light dinner on the lawn of the Victorian Village.
Henry, thanks for the reply. I fond out it was Nick Candee who left behind the magazine, I just spoke with him on the phone. Also found a mutual acquaintance in Tom Gould, who as you probably know has a DB5. I'll be doing the membership paperwork today and look forward to meeting you in the future.
