Annual Service - Oil Weights

I was just going through the receipt for my 4th year/ 48K mile service, and noticed that although the parts list shows 10w60 oil, the tech notes indicated that they used 11 quarts of synthetic 0w40 Mobile oil.

Should I be calling the dealer and ask some questions?

What are the concerns of the 0w40 vs 10w60?

I live in San Francisco, and track the car once in a while.

Thanks for any input...

I thought the spec was 10w60 SN full synthetic (at least this what it says in my manual) V8V

Google bob the oil guy - might allay your concerns, possibly in your climate (Although I didn't think SF got that cold - more like Sydney) you use a slightly different grade for winter start ups

Not sure they make a 0-60W oil?

0w40 is much thinner than the 10w60 we're supposed to use. I'd be worried about it at operating temperatures, and definitely would not go to the track or push the car hard until you get it changed out for the correct spec.

This is an Aston Martin dealer? I'd definitely call them. They should know what oil to put in the car. i suspect it's a type-o.

Isn't 0w-40 used for db9 and 10w60 for Vantage. That's what I understand.

Could it be that the 0-40 w oil is for the v 12 engines and the 10-60 w oil for the v8 engines. Assuming Batman has a V8 engine in his vantage?

Thanks guys

I gave a V8 Vantage S, and all work was completed at an Aston Martin Dealer.

All future work will be done by an Indy, but I went to the dealer to have some items handled under warranty.

I'll be calling the dealer Monday and requesting an oil service to ensure I have the correct weight.

What would be some technical reasons, (risks and concerns) I could convey to ensure he doesn't shrug it off as a typo, and is further influenced to ensure proper oil in the car.

Thanks

If they give you a hard time, which they shouldn't, just point to the oil recommendation in the owner's manual and demand that they meet the factory requirements.

0w40 is a very different viscosity than the recommended 10w60. It's going to be much "thinner" than the oil specified by the factory, and that can lead to engine protection issues, especially when the oil is hot. The "thinness" of the oil when hot may not provide enough barrier between metal components, leading to wearing and potential damage.

Personally...I would take this seriously...change the oil to 10w60... They put the wrong oil into your car. Furthermore I work check the work order to see if new oil plugs and washers were replaced.
Good luck...and safe Driving
