BTW, i have the same problem on my 2007 vantage (as do others) and it can be avoided by either waiting for the car to warm up to operating temps (who wants to do that?) or shift from 1st to third and then back to 2nd. in any event, for me anyway, the problem goes away after the engine reaches operating temp.
This thread is almost 3 years old, Broseph.
I have this issue, as well. but I also have a leaking slave cylinder causing low fluid pressure in the clutch system, and the car has an appointment to have its clutch replaced tomorrow with a VAP twin-disc. We'll see how it behaves after that's done... if I can even still take it in, considering this whole virus debacle. Wish I had known about that before I scheduled the service 6 weeks ago.

Stay safe. Wash your hands.

Edit: Personal experience: I never have any gear grinding, even when it's cold. I try to give the synchros as little work as possible by making sure the engine rpm is in the correct range for the gear; I heel-toe every downshift, always. On upshifts, it's a timing issue. Make sure your shifts are taking just enough time for the revs to drop about 1100 rpm between releasing and re-engaging the clutch. It takes practice to do it consistently every time. And if you have a lightweight flywheel and/or rotating assembly, that amount of time will change because the engine will rev and fall off quicker.
