Hi guys, me again. My 2005 DB9 came to me with 275/30/20 Continental Extreme Contact tyres on it, on aftermarket rims. They (the tyres) always looked a little stretched to me, which I don't like, and they're (over!) due for replacement. I'm thinking of going up in size, but not sure what brand to go with.
The latest high end street performance tire from Michelin is their Pilot Sport 4S (Replaces the super sport). I have a set on now. So far so good. Good ride compliance and feel. The original SS was a great tire and this claims to be better. Obviously not all season.. I think the 4S will be hard to beat for a street tire on any car.

1. You cannot go wrong with the new MPS4's
2. Sizes since you have 20's
Front: 245/35/20
Rear: 285/30/20
I have an 05, and also the VelocityAP lowering springs. The ride is the same or better than the factory setup. I noticed no ride difference between my factory 19's and the new 20's.
Continental Extremecontact Sport is their newest matchup to the MPS4's. Continental claims they are better. Tests show that in all condition match-ups, the Continental beat the MPSS/MPS4 in the comfort, wet, and lost only by a bit in the dry. Turn in was the reason. Testors said the turn-in wasn't quite as responsive as the MPS4.
I have the Continentals due to those reports, then the $280 savings helped after the fact. I figured its a really good looking tire, main brand, hottest tire they have ever put out, i only put 3k miles a year on my car, so I don't think I will ever ever max the capabilities of either, so why not get the Continentals. They are great IMO and I would highly recommend them. I bought from Tire Rack with a $70 rebate. Also, the sizes I gave you match up the absolute best with factory sizes. The roundness measurements are the lowest difference they can be.
I hope this helps, been meaning to write up these tires. I have owned both, but would buy the Conti's again.
I disagree respectively ; I have had the PSS and the Conti's. Conti's look better, cheaper, reviews say its better in all but one smidgen of an area which only a person tracking their car would notice or even know how to tell the difference.
Unless you have tried both, you cannot say anything with knowledge to back it up. I agree you cannot go wrong with the PS4s, which I have not had, but they are likely the same with a minor difference than the PSS which I have had 3 sets on 2x cars.
I totally agree with your asessment Sheriff, but as I am tracking my car the Conti is out of the scope. I know the Bridgestones, various Pirellis and have the PSS since two years. For me the best tyres I had so far and I am looking forward to get the PS4 which should be even better. I just have to use the PSS up they are still in very good nick (15.000 Km on them).

It would be interesting so see A. long term tire wear B. normal people track feeling etc....; for both these. I am sure we will know more as time goes by.
yep, see you track your car so I would likely do the same as you per my decision making.
I have used Conti on all Mercedes (DWS) except my E63 AMG which came with PSSs. So kept those on and up till now the PSS was hands down the best. Conti even admitted that, so the new Extreme Sport came out to change that. We will see, either way the OP will be happy.
I just love the PSS, I am runnig them on a bit less pressure then AM recommends and give them time to build up pressure and temperature. Just the best road tyre I had in 40 years (spirited) driving.

Id be interested to know what pressures you are running & what size tyres
just put 255/35/19 & 295/3019 on my V8V and am running 38/36psi in them
not sure this is right but happy to hear others views

+1
I have the Conti's on my jag and the new Mich on my DB9 and have to say the conti's with 5k miles hold better than brand new Mich with around 500 miles. Had I had time to wait, I would of got the Conti's on my DB9, especially living in Fl where it rains a LOT.
@Graze: Front 245/40/19 at 2,2Bar (32psi), rear 285/35/19 at 2,3Bar (33psi) all on the sportspack wheels. That is the best legal setup for me, anything bigger might get me in trouble with the law in Austria, unless I go through the tedious trouble of getting it registered.

Guys, sorry, the last question about the wheels is the first notification of replies I've had. I went with 295/30/20's in the end, as they were the closest to the original rolling radius. Honestly, I'm still not sure the car needs/can carry off 20" wheels, but the tyres looks much more comfortable now and less stretched than they did before.
Thanuja - wheels are Savini BM9's in 20x 11 on the back, 20x9 on the front. Still not convinced about the rears and how they look at that width...
