DB9 Amplifier replacement

Has anybody successfully put in an aftermarket amp and kept the rest of their Linn/Volvo system?

This is what James Hawks-Reed did for me - and it works a treat!

"The plan is to junk the original amplifier completely, this poses a problem because it is part of the MOST fibre optic loop with the rest of the audio set up. So in its place we need to fit an interface that will ‘talk’ to the original Aston set up and in turn ‘talk’ to a decent aftermarket amplifier. The interface I’m thinking of is the Audison Bit DMI which comes in at (http://www.fourcaraudio.co.uk/brands...dison-bit-dmi/). This in turn will connect via another optical connection to the 8 channel amplifier ((http://www.fourcaraudio.co.uk/brands...ima/ap-89-bit/) ) and then connect to the original speakers. The quality of this amplifier is exemplary, however it isn’t enough to drive a decent sub at the same time, so in addition to the prima amplifier, the DMI will also connect to a dedicated sub amplifier ((http://www.fourcaraudio.co.uk/brands...ma/amplifiers/) ) which will then drive an 8” sub ((http://www.fourcaraudio.co.uk/brands...prima-aps-8-d/) ) located in the original sub position, but the area totally lined with sound deadener to eliminate resonance. "

Was this used to replace the Linn AMP and sub?

Thanks,
Randy

Any updates on this please? I am interested in doing the same. I'm told that the original Linn amp is compact and fits into a very compact space behind the carpet behind the rear bulkhead of the car. Does the new amp you found also fit into this? In addition the the interior cabin or the car having no cosmetic changes I also wish the boot of the car to also have no cosmetic changes. Would be interested in how you go and do you mind sharing the total cost? Thanks!!

This work was all done - with superb results.

However...

Things move on... in a recent conversation with a James it seems that a new amp is available that will allow you to junk the entire Linn setup and save a little room.

Oh!
Any information on what this new system is?
Much appreciated thanks.
Can I get the whole thing done for less than $4000?
