Improvements new clutch - sportshift Vantage '09?
Improvements new clutch - sportshift Vantage '09?
Hi,
I own an AM vantage Sportshift 4.7L from 2009. I'm very happy about the car and the driving experience, although the clutch can be jerky sometimes. Off course this is a known issue.
With some adaptation and experience of the driver, the issues can be limited.
The car has around 40.000km and with it's last maintenance the dealer said it still has about "60%" before replacement of the clutch will be needed. In our terms of mileage/year, a couple of years are still ahead. I have the feeling the gear changer take longer in comparison with some years ago, sometimes it can really take a long time.
I saw some good reviews about the new AMR twin plate clutch, but unfortunately only available for manual transmissions... My dealer said a replacement of the clutch, with labour cost, would be around €4.000.
He said the new clutch is "improved" in comparison with the one currently installed. Although he said the flywheel would not be lighter. No details were given, I did not ask further.
Is it true that a better clutch/flywheel will be installed by AM if i would replace the current one with my dealer?
I am not in favor of going to a 3th party to install a new clutch.
specific: did AM make improvements to the clutches for the 4.7 sportshift models and will I feel difference when driving?
Thank you,

Yes I saw that one. But are the current clutches aston martin offers (for models 2009) better then the one is in my car right Now? I know other companies can supply clutches, but i’m not in favor for that..
The current regular factory manual clutches have changed so I would suspect the ASM replacements would be the new type also, but I am not positive. But have had the new type installed in my 6M.
Sorry to bump an old topic but at this point I'm considering to change the clutch on the vantage.
Pity that aston martin doesn't offer the AMR clutch for the sportshift versions... If I would like to install the twin plate clutches, I would have to go to Bamford Rose/Velocity AP in England to have the job done.
Altough since I have no technical knowlegde, all the maintenance is being done by the AM dealership in Belgium.
If there should appear some technical issues, I guess the chance will be big that our dealer points the finger at Bamford and will do difficult?
The newer standard ASM clutches have improved, but I think for a litte extra cash I could get a much better clutch. Since I don't drive alot of km's/year (3.000km/year), the idea is to have this clutch for quite a few years. So I want to make sure I make the right decision.
Can someone give me some tips what would be an interestering option to go for?

Regardless your having a clutch installed. Have you asked the AM dealer if they would install the aftermarket twin? If not it sounds like a OEM clutch makes the most sense for you. You have gotten excellent mileage out of the first one. If you set on the BR unit. Make a trip out of it and visit the UK.
