Angry Did It Again

In all the excitement of getting my 2015 Vantage out of storage I forgot the routine of holding gas pedal to floor and priming the engine second year in row. Car has been in hibernation since November. By doing so am I causing any damage to the engine?

I don't think so, there is plenty of residual oil in the top of the valve train. Just make sure you get to operating temperature and at least drive it.

Oil pressure is always good on start-up. Did you do damage? The only way to say for sure is to do a little forensics on the engine. I wouldn't worry about it. What's done is done.

If you haven't tried Blackstone (https://www.blackstone-labs.com/) and monitored your oil, then you clearly aren't OCD... You can easily suck a sample out the dipstick with a vacuum pump (eg, a mityvac pump)...
You too can track trace metals and wonder what they mean (and join all the rest of us who do...)

You should hang a note from your rear view mirror... Or ask your wife to remind you.

I'd bet most people don't even know about this feature.

I didn't know about this procedure until just recently myself. I have a 2012 V8V and the manual speaks nothing of this. The only talk about cold starts is to let the car get to normal operating temperature before exceeding 4000 RPM or something like that.

Clear Flood Mode, try it on every car that has fuel injection and a box wired up.I have yet to find one it doesn't work on.

Look under the storage section, it's page 10-47 in the early owner's manual.

I am going to guess that this is not that big a deal for cars stored a few months due to the climate you live in. There are hundeds of thousands (?) of cars stored for the winters and restarted each spring without any specific procedures.
If the car is stored for over a year, then yes follow recommend procedures for initial start up. For winter storage, just keep the engine at idle until it warms up. (My 2 cents)

2015 owners manual says this is recommended for "storage periods exceeding six months."

Very interesting, can someone explain exactly what the procedure does and how it works?

Coincidentally, I took the 993 out for the 1st drive of spring (stored since Dec), and for the 1st time in the last 12 years, I pulled the DME relay to crank up some oil pressure before the actual start. I noticed the lifters were quieter than the last start(s)... probably overkill, but I figured why not.

Curious about the AM procedure though.

Cheers

Matt
