2013 V8V intermittently can’t find 1st

Only had the car a week. Sportshift - I drive like a manual, paddles in sport mode. I am doing a lot of city driving and I find once in a while it has trouble going into first after several N-1->2 back to N in stop
n go traffic. Sometimes I will be rolling slow in N and try to go to 1 and it says push brake pedal. Makes me full stop before it will go into first.

Today i I got stuck at a light. Idling in N... wouldn’t go into 1st - kept jumping to 2 and wouldn’t drive. I started to panic as people were honking (embarrassing) so I pushed the D button on the console and it drove fine. After I got off the road, I tried several stop starts N _> 1 and it worked just fine....

any input?

You may want to have your brake pedal switch checked for out of adjustment, or replaced. Miles on car or condition/wear of clutch life could be a factor. Welcome to the forum.

I've had 6 Vantages - 5 with Sportshifts. At a full dead stop should go into first. Neutral? Did you purposely do that? There would be no reason to select neutral while waiting. When you start the car, the clutch must have tome to measure the 'kiss' point. On a 2013, the neutral button should have a light that flashes before the kiss point procedure is complete, do not take off or put into gear unless this is done. That could cause a problem if you don't let the clutch kiss procedure finish. The transmission was intended to manually shift, not use [D].

It may be my lack of driving knowledge, I am definitely not an expert, in my Elise I usually idle at a stop light in N instead of holding the clutch down.

I was using the same idea thinking it’s better to idle in N instead of holding the brakes in 1st gear.

I only used D as a last resort in this situation when the paddles wouldn’t find 1st gear.

Thank you for the advice. Always learning
