Like a lot of of you 4.3L owners, I found the Volvo key fob to be a huge disappointment. Last year I came up with a concept sketch that I thought was cool and decided to go for it. I got a 3D printer and learned Fusion 360 and now, countless prototypes later, I finally have a fob I’m happy with. It could still use a bit more fine sanding and polishing but I wanted to share.
It's CNC milled from micarta, with a Swiss-made domed sapphire crystal ‘grille’, titanium screws, and a piece of OEM obsidian black leather from Bridge of Weir. The circuit from the Volvo fob drops right in and it functions just as well as the original.
Let me know what you think of it. I’m considering making a bigger batch of these if there’s enough interest.
First off: what a stunning piece of engineering. Well, well, very well done.
I've done the Jag-Key Fob conversion which is a mucht better upgrade but surely not even half way of what this option offers!
I reckon a no-panic-button version for the EU market could be offered too? I'm sure would be interested in two of these.
Thank you very much!
This is news to me that your keys don't have the panic button. I assume that the button is present on the transmitter but just absent on the case? In that case I'd assume these should work, or is there some reason you're legally prevented from having the red button?
Food for thought as a V2 version, combine the two pieces into one! Aston grill on the backside and key blade on the opposite.
It took me nearly a year to get this far, LOL!
In all seriousness I doubt it would fit. There's not much real estate between the ignition and the dash.

The limiting factor right now is the sapphire crystals...I'm only able to get my hands on 16 of them currently. Considering the cost of CNC machining, materials and the extensive hand finishing, these will probably be in the $700-800 range if I do them. Perhaps a bit less. Still cheaper than the OEM alternative though.
I don't need it but I did just want to say how brilliant that looks, I'm sure that could become a very sort after mod! Get it to the AMOC mag and facebook groups; I'm sure it will take off!

Thank you! Currently exploring making a nylon version at a lower price point as the market for this version is apparently quite limited
It's all well and good though, as I can only have the 16 crystals...
