Looking at buying 16 DB9 GT Volante. What issues to check / expect? How's your DB9?

Hi everyone,

I originally was looking for a leftover 17 Vanquish but the DB9 GT is more my style it seems. Those of you who own a refreshed DB9 or a DB9 GT do you have any suggestions for issues to have checked like the carbon ceramic brakes, or any peculiar issues that you have experienced? Overall are you enjoying your DB9's and how has reliability been? I've dealt with Ferrari, Maserati and Bentley and have had a 10K+ bill happen once per vehicle but luckily it isn't a yearly occurrence.

Also if your are in or around NY who services your car? I've used multiple dealers in the tri-state area for service but learned just because one dealer offers multiple brands doesn't mean the service quality is similar or what you expect of a luxury brand. Ie Ferrari service may be hit or miss but the same dealers Maserati overall may be infuriating or unresponsive, while Bentley service had no issues.

DB9 is a great car regardless of the year! The DB9 GT is an awesome car, the carbon ceramic brakes work great, if you do not drive aggressive with them they probably will make some noise (brake squeal). Do not use anything other than water / air to clean them FYI to reduce noise as well. DB9 trans cooler lines leak sometimes, the V12 timing case cover can leak, those are the two main things. Its always a good idea to have an authorized AM dealer for a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) will cost some money up front but could save you a lot in the long run! it seems like people on here seem to like AM Summit dealership. Another big thing to look for is previous service records! Hope this helps!

I agree with NotanM on the carbon ceramic brakes. I have them on my 2012 V12 Vantage. 47,000 miles...rotors look new, may have to splurge for pads this spring. Most incredible is that there is ZERO brake dust.
Thanks,
JH

DB9 GT is my favorite iteration of the DB9. They really hit the home run as the last hoorah.

There was a really nice looking DB9 GT at Morries Aston Martin - but it's not listed anymore - must have sold. I'll check to see if it's still available

Thank you this is very helpful. Definitely always get a PPI and if the dealer won't allow it then it's a red flag.

I've been keeping track over the last year but in waiting to around March to purchase as it I purchase now unless it's a really great deal it may make sense to purchase it then pay for winter storage. I found one that looked great from F C Kerbeck and luckily I asked for the records it had been in a pretty decent accident meaning the most of the door had to be replaced.

You should be able to negotiate the cost of the PPI off the car if you buy it or maybe they'll go 50/50 on it if they can own the PPI if you don't buy it. If they won't allow a PPI; run don't walk away from that car.

In my previous experience unless something major was found they wouldn't take a dollar off. Only once got all new tires because old ones were low. They would give me the time someone could come to do a exterior and mechanical inspection. Scheduling it especially when you are out of state can be tough.

Unless you are tracking your car the CCB will last many miles as he stated. The only downfall to them is the noise as mentioned prior, but with proper care they shouldn't make a peep!

Food for thought... you can get an extra 30hp added to the DB9 with a software download, do that some car deletes and a muffler and you'll have a awesome DB9

Could you explain further? I thought NA engines don't see power increases through purely software? Also does anyone know if the 16 DB9 GT can be upgraded to AMIII interface? I contacted AM directly twice and their online form said it would be forwarded to a local dealer but they never responded. That's also why I asked if any in or around NY has a preferred mechanic or dealer as that one doesn't seem to care.

N/A engine can produce more HP with simple tunes. I believe it is 30hp gain from a software download.

Found this online:

That's exactly the article I referenced when I attempted to contact AM twice with no response. Anyone on the forum with a DB9 GT get yours uograded with carplay via AM III?
