SSP Tuning
SSP Tuning
Found a company on ebay that does ecu tunes for the V8V and was wondering if any of you have heard of SSP Tuning. They look big in Audi/VW and diesel. They are a lot cheaper then the Velocity tune, even on Black Friday sale. I know Velocity is a slam dunk but don't want to discount another company just because of never hearing of them.
Thanks

You're paying Velocity for their experience in tuning the Vantage. $600 difference with the regular Velocity price is not small, but in the grand scheme of things still not that much. $300 wouldn't be enough to even think about personally. I certainly wouldn't be pulling my ECU out and sending to somebody. Part of the Velocity price gets you the programmer so all you have to do is flash the ECU.
I have the Velocity tune in my '11 V8V S, and I am very happy with it. One of the benefits is the ability to quickly restore the stock tune for an Ohio smog test or a trip to the dealer. I personally would not risk the loss of my parts in the mail. That alone would be more costly than any initial savings. Also, don't underestimate the benefits of calling people directly if you gave questions. Their customer service is excellent.

So I just did the velocity tune after I got it with the black friday sale... and WOW... just a drive around the block and seeing how responsive the car has become is impressive enough on it's own. I can't wait to get on the main roads in a little bit. Plus, the process was super easy.
I won't say that someone selling a tune on ebay can't do a good job, but what are the chances? Do they stand behind their work? What is their warranty? What happens when the engine or emission system is damaged? What's their experience with Aston Martin? What do they actually do in their "tune"?
Returning to stock is a nice feature as others have mentioned but even better is the continued support on fine tuning that VAP provides. Two years after I got my tune, they sent me a new map to better optimize the car for my new light weight flywheel. That is, of course, on top of the amazing difference in the way the engine makes power.
I'm all about not over-paying for things. I buy o-rings in bulk for the oil bypass filter and do my own maintenance. But a bad engine tune can ruin your experience with the car or at worst have catastrophic consequences. VAP doesn't overcharge for this service and the quality of the product is obvious.

You've got to be crazy.... In this world, we get what we pay for. VAP will provide continued support for their product long after installation.
I don't know, seems like you've got the wrong car if you're looking to save a few bucks for what you've suggested. You this wrong, and you'll be paying through the nose to fix whatever goes wrong.

No one was being that sir-----but you for sure know what your are dealing with by someone saying such. There are items to find cheaper and there are items to NOT find cheaper. This is one of them. Even if it were 1k cheaper its not for you. There are already things not mentioned here that you are not aware right off the bat.
It was already discussed about removing and sending in an ECU and those problems. So won't mention it.
1. IF your AM dealer happened to be nice and put a refresh update to your ECU while its in the shop to surprise you and have you appreciate them more ---- With the VAP tune it will remove the tune and make the controller useless anymore. (that is why you remove the tune whenever you go to a dealer and reinstall when leaving) With the ECU modification who knows what that could or could not cause. A new ECU is multiple thousands, why would someone even risk it.
2. There is really no other company out there other than Bamford Rose in the UK that support the AM marquis like VAP does.
3. What you also may not know is that VAP hired the #1 AM tech to provide expertise with the cars in general and also to oversee the tuning of them. That is the largest bonus of all.
I know your likely already made your mind up going with VAP, its just sometimes being totally blunt with someone reinforces the point to where that person remembers it. I do it all the time in LE. They need that to remind them. That same person was also trying to help you even though you didn't like how.
Hope that helps explain a lot more for you. Keep asking questions about this if you like, many many people on here have the VAP tune.

certainly not sending my ECU anywhere.
how many orders do we need to get together in order to get the tune for $600 each?
