VelocityAP Apex Race Wheels New Product Announcement

Hello Everyone,

Hope you are all settling into the New Year. We're looking forward to bringing you all lots of fun new products this year and running our customer experience track day again.

VelocityAP is very pleased to have partnered with Apex Race Wheels to bring you some awesome options for reasonably priced, yet high quality wheels for Aston Martin cars. For those of you unfamiliar with Apex Wheels, they have established themselves in the last decade as the go-to company for affordable yet strong and durable lightweight wheels amongst some serious racers and track day junkies.

However, they make a couple of very attractive styles & finishes which suit the Aston Martin to a 'T'. The Aston Martin compatible wheels are currently offered in a Flow-Formed manufacturing technique, and include a comforting warranty. We will be working with Apex in the coming weeks to provide some more photography showing the EC7 style as well as some more finish & car colour combinations for both.

Fitment
Offsets are set up to run a more aggressive and 'flush' look, but still to remain functional and work with most lowering springs & coilovers. Recommended fitments:
18x9.5 ET35 Front & 18x10 ET40 Rear
18x10 ET40 Front & 18x11 ET52 Rear
19x10 ET40 Front & 19x11ET52 Rear

View Sizes & Finishes

Flow Forming
Benefits of forging, without the pain

These APEX wheels are produced using a manufacturing process known as flow forming. This process significantly reduces weight in the barrel, which has the greatest impact on rotational mass. During the manufacturing process, rollers apply high pressure to the inner barrel, compressing the aluminum into its final shape. This effectively eliminates porosity and aligns the grain structure of the metal, which increases tensile strength. The end result is a lightweight and extremely strong barrel that equals that of a traditional forged wheel at a fraction of the cost.

Testing & Certifications
Verifiable 3rd party testing

Many companies promote their wheels as being certified by the VIA when they actually aren’t. That’s like using the USDA logo on food without permission. APEX wheels get officially tested and registered by the VIA in Japan, and we have the proof to back it up. Learn more about false VIA claims.

Japan’s JWL is a commonly followed standard for wheel load ratings. Our flow formed wheels meet, and most exceed, their load rating requirements. Most manufacturers only meet the minimum while some don’t even do that. Check and verify load ratings before you buy. Learn more about wheels that aren’t JWL.

Weight & Strength Optimization
It’s all in the details

Various design features were implemented to ensure that the EC-7 & SM-10 wheel design was light, but had even more strength to handle the abuses experienced in endurance racing. We began with a beefy, multi-spoke, one-piece design. We added reliefs in the mounting pad to remove weight between lug holes, where we could safely save weight. The design was then run through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to further optimize the spoke and barrel design. The result is a lightweight wheel with extra strength in all the right places. Use with confidence. It’s over built for both street and track.

Finishes
Because being faster is just not enough

The EC-7 & SM10 wheels are available in multiple finishes. All APEX wheels are finished using a comprehensive multi-stage liquid paint system over a powder coated base coat. Standard finishes include gloss-metallic finishes, and semi-gloss or matte finishes.

Often overlooked, painted or powder coated lug hole seats can cause hardware to loosen or begin the spread of paint chipping to more visible sections. The coating process of the EC-7 leaves lug holes, center bores and mounting pads untouched, which ensures proper fit and torque values.

Lifetime Warranty
A wheel you can depend on

As of recent, all our wheels now come with a lifetime structural warranty and 1 year finish warranty, so you can be confident in your purchase.

50% Off Replacement Wheels
Hit those berms like you don’t care

Do some serious damage to a wheel that’s not covered under warranty? No worries. Curb rash or even totally mangling a wheel in a car accident is covered by our APEX360° program. We offer replacements for wrecked wheels at 50% off our standard prices. See our full terms and conditions for more details.

Very cool - great product release!

Curious, on your site, some of these are listed as EC-7 Mustang wheel - is that a style name or fitment compatibility thing?

Also as wondering, where are these made?

Cheers

Thanks Matt. Just some database management stuff that didn't get corrected. Should be updated now.

One of the cool things for you guys out East - I know some of you still winter drive your cars, these 18" options will work with some nice winter tire sizes but will still look nice and flush.

Hi Stuart - any recommendation for sizes for a square setup for the track? Would 19 x 11 ET52s fit up front?

19x11 is too big for the front. You can run a 19x10 square setup - we fit that with a 265/40/19 Hoosier R7's on all 4 corners. What tire you can fit on it will depend to some degree on camber and also the specific tire you want to fit. Not all tires have the same sidewall profile or actual width.

For example, when trying to size for this car we could not fit a 295/40/18 Hoosier R7 to the car, too wide in the front. That's in spite of the fact that the World Challenge cars were running the same 18x10" OZ wheels with a 305/660/18 Pirelli Slick. We have a bunch of track cars in storage here that we maintain so out of interest I pulled a Pirelli 305 Slick out and laid both on the floor. The Hoosier 295 was *almost* 1" wider than the 305 Pirelli.....

Thanks Stuart - very helpful.

I can attest to the quality of the Apex wheels as I had a set of ARC-8s as track wheels for my M3. They seem to be the "go to" track wheel in the BMW community in 18x10 square with Nitto NT-01 tires.

For sure. I run our build 302 Swapped & Stripped E36 (2300lbs.) on 17x9 with a 255 NT01. We have 3 or 4 more sets of the ARC-8's for our E36 M3 Track Rat, a couple customer E46 330i builds, and 4 sets of the SM-10's kicking around for customer Cayman Race Car builds. Can't go wrong. Great quality and great price point.

What tire sizes would you recommend for 19 x 10 Front + 19 x 11 Rear setup on a DB9 with stock brakes?

Also would be nice to see weights posted. Thanks.

265/35/19 Front & 305/30/19 Rear should work, depending on the tire (see my previous comments about R7 - if you're talking road tyres, something like a 4S should be good.)

I'm just working on getting the descriptions update for weights, but in 19's they are as follows:

EC7 19x10: 24lbs
EC7 19x11: 24.5lbs
SM10 19x10: 23.15lbs
SM10 19x11: 23.98lbs

Looking forward to seeing some of the EC7's fitted as well. Shipping costs we have fixed at $150 for USA only - there' s a fixed price option on the website.

Stuart, Great look on the #47 coupe in your original post. Is it a GT4, or a "track special"?

What are the wheel dimensions and profiles (as illustrated in the Apex on line catalog)
Body appears to be an early car, no big Kamntail on the liftgate and an early fascia, but includes a hood with front corner latches and big holes.

More pictures of this car?

So this car is not a GT4 or 'Track Special' but has been modified. Lowering Springs, some exhaust work and I believe it's a VCollection hood.
