Best Scanner Tools for V8 Vantage

I have a 2009 Vantage V8 Convt... I'd like to buy a scanner tool, something that isn't a million dollars. I'm not a mechanic, i'm looking for something that can check codes, clear codes, air bag sensor lights, check engine, etc. I have a cheap reader now ($29) and it only does the very basics.

I'd like something that reads codes but also tells me what the hell they are in better detail. If this exists, ha!

Recommendations?

For the cost, it's a pretty good solution.

Some pretty good comments:

Does this work for a 2012 V12 Vantage?

All I need to do is turn off the service now light. The DB9 procedure to do without a scanner didn’t work.

TIA.

I use the Foxwell 640 unit which supports Aston natively, so far it seems to work well, I cleared an Airbag fault yesterday after having the seats out. It also dug out all sorts of codes from the other modules too.

The driveway has 2 Porsche's, an Aston Vantage, a Land Rover Lr4 and let's say various other vehicles... Would these scanners work for all or is there additional modules to buy for each vehicle?

I used my buddy's Foxwell and it couldn't be easier to reset a code. I plan to buy one myself.

guys, i recently found myself needing one of those tools.

took the car in for service back in late Oct and haven't driven it a lot since. and now needing a smog check. last week i went in and they said EGR and AIR monitors weren't ready. after driving 200 miles (just to be safe), the EGR cleared and ready. but AIR (Secondary Air Pump) is still not ready after 5 days of daily driving and startup. the Smog station guy said that it's a common problem with all european cars and typically the AIR monitor is the last one to clear. He said that it's tough when the weather also isn't cold enough so sometimes those euro cars SAP don't come on.

now i am in the tough boat of trying to start it up in various ways the next few days, i would rather have my own scan tool to check as oppose to keep going back to the Smog station. poor guy seems to have the patience of a monk. i just feel bad, but most of all an inconvenience.

i limited down to Foxwell NT520, 530, or the NT301. the NT301 doesn't specifically say what car makes it's compatible with. i honestly don't need all the fancy features. i just need basic functionality of reading error codes, smog readiness check, and reset CEL if i ever have any in the future.

right now the car doesn't throw any code, and no CEL. this is all according to the smog station tech. he said those euro cars are tricky, i just have to keep driving it, since i haven't driven it enough and hopefully when the weather gets cold enough the last AIR monitor will be ready.

can i just get a NT301, will it not work with my 2009 V8V ASM.

I use an ELM327 bluetooth OBD-II reader ($15 on Amazon) and an app called MotorData OBD ($4.99, I think). Works great.

edit: here's a screenshot from a couple days ago when I pulled codes for a CEL with emissions warning. I cleared it and it hasn't returned.

Would this also turn off the annual service reminder light? TIA.

thanks, i got a Foxwell NT301 instead. i spent two days researching. although the Blutooth ones like the ELM327 with TOAD, and Motor data all seem reasonably priced, they just looked too complicated for my liking. this is my first scanner, and i really wanted to try avoid any mishap. so i really was just looking for something simple that meets the three criteria described above. the Foxwell NT301 came yesterday and was perfect for me. Reads codes, MIL/CEL, Smog readiness, and reset error codes, with an added bonus of viewing live data and graphing capability.

i highly recommend this little tool for anyone's first OBDii scanner.

Does NT301 turn off the annual service reminder light?

Not sure, haven't had to use it for that yet. But if I had to guess I think it would. Either way it's only $15 and you can use it on other cars, so... worth it.

thanks for responses.

With mine a 13, it didn’t work with the T1/2 in second “key” position. I got it to clear by inserting “key” in 1 position, then holding T1/2, once triangle light Illuminated, I released the one position. Then when reinserted key, the service light was no longer.

I don’t mind purchasing another tool, but have too many only used once. Thanks again.
