Easy Bluetooth Media Solution

I'm sure this has been posted before... but so excited it works so well I have to share. $15 shipped.

Bluetooth is on the USB end. Pulls power off the USB jack, music or phone output to the 1/8" stereo jack. No more hard wired phone for Pandora. Sound quality is great. It had no built in mic, my phone mic still worked. (Galaxy S20) Not sure all phones will.

Phone auto connects, and it powers up when the door opens.

Most importantly it's so tidy in the center console, leaving a ton of room for my golf clubs.

Wish I had found one of these before paying $90 for a Bovee 1000.

I had that I'm my cart first but was worried the cord would not be long enough. Firefly was still cheap, about $27 I think.

What year did they start adding a USB port for a DB9 and Vantage?

Put a firefly in my 2009 V8V. It comes with a small 3.5mm jack extension cord to reach between the USB and AUX jacks, so no worries there.

Works great for listening to music and hearing GPS voice prompts. Doesn't interfere with the integrated Bluetooth phone capabilities.

Only downside is that the volume controls (including those on the steering wheel) work, but all others (play, pause, fwd, rev) all have to be done on the phone.

As stated above, automatically re-pairs (at least with my iPhone XS) when the audio system is powered up.

So, if you have a car with a USB and AUX jack, this is definitely the way to go. Keep your old iPod plugged in, and enjoy Bluetooth as well.

Is this better than Bovee? I have Bovee in my 2011 V12V and it will start playing media from my phone at times when I start the car. I often keep volume down to listen to my glorious exhaust and have found that it will be playing one of my audiobooks and will have gone through several chapters until I realize it is playing in background. Even when I try to stop it playing with my phone, it will just open back up and start playing again. I end up having to turn on the FM radio to get it to stop.

Unfortunately, what you describe is pretty much the standard operation of most of these add-on Bluetooth solutions like the Bovee or the Firefly.

As soon as they power-up, they think that you want your phone/device to re-connect and start playing automatically, which isn't necessarily true.

This makes sense if Bluetooth is built-in as there is more control over mixing the Bluetooth output with the other audio output. For example, it knows you're in FM mode, so it won't play the music/audio book on your phone but will play GPS audio to overlay the radio station you're listening to. That kind of complicated interaction is only possible with an integrated system.

However, with these add-on solutions, it's a bit of a catch 22. The dongle doesn't know what mode your audio system is in, so it either connects automatically, and starts playing even though you don't have the right audio mode selected, resulting in what you describe, or, if it doesn't do that, then you're required to manually re-connect with the device through Bluetooth every time you enter your car, which is a pain in itself.

Either way it's a hack, and not as good as an integrated system. I'll probably ditch mine eventually and go for something more integrated, but it works for the moment.

I found what appears to the exact bluetooth receiver shown in the original post. Yes it was super cheap ($12.50 on Amazon), and it did work, but the bass response was non-existent. This was verified by direct in-vehicle comparison to my old Blackberry BT receiver, which sounds infinitely better. Just an FYI...
