Replacement Key Plastic or Glass

Hello all. I'm a recent buyer of a 2012 Virage Volante and it only came with one plastic key (that is missing the end cap )

I'm looking to get a glass key and I see some options on eBay that look promising. However, I talk with the local AM Dealer here in Tampa, FL and they are saying I need the codes for the key to be able to program to my car. He mentioned its a laminate sheet with white and black codes on it. My question is, where is the best place to get a replacement key (whether plastic or glass) and do you really need the "codes" to get a used key to work?

Thank you all!

Yes you must have the code. If you cant find it the dealer will goto Aston Martin to retrieve the code, you will need to provide proof of ownership.

Your best is to just go through the dealer and take your lumps. Glass key is around $1300 unfortunately.

I don't know if this helps but I found the laminated sheet with my car's key codes inside the fuse box in the trunk when I went to pull out fuse 22.

Well that key code is only good for the key it came with, and the dealer can not retrieve missing code the only place those key code are is on that label with the key itself. So your only choice is to buy a new key (Glass or plastic) new with key code. Sorry about the bad news

If you purchase a NEW Volvo key FOB inside it the electrical board fits either one and you have the code card. Assemble it into a remote of your choice and have the dealer program it. VOLVO remote with code card can be had for $100 or less.

Do a forum search as there is a part number and all the information.

this is exactly what I did and now it works perfectly. Got a glass key for $220, Volvo key for $70, and dealer program for $200. Less than $500 for a glass key.... seems like a Win as crazy as that sounds.

This might be a stupid newbie question, but the Volvo key fob board works for normal glass key cars like my '16 V8 Vantage? If so, is the process to do this documented anywhere? I already have a glass key in addition to my plastic one, but I wouldn't mind putting together a spare if I find a cheap glass key shell on eBay or somewhere.
