Door struts

I searched old threads, but I couldn't find any listing for alternative door struts to the Aston Martin labelled product. (to fit a 2007 V8 Vantage)

First, does anybody have an easy to get cross-over part? (I found one on Amazon, but it had horrible reviews!)

Second, are the factory struts, when new, strong enough for the job? It seems I read a new car review where they were already complaining about the doors not staying open on any slight incline.
For the hatch and hood it seemed that people sourced slightly stronger than stock units. I'm wondering if it would be better to get a 10-20% stronger unit for the door if it was available.

Who's waded through this already and has advice to offer?

i got my feet wet a year or so ago and replaced my factory door struts with AM parts and they work well. can't say for how long....but for now they are okay so i wouldn't worry too much about them not being up to the job. OTOH...

a few months later my hood wouldn't stay up so i started a search for replacements. it lead me to a thread (can't remember which one) on hood and hatch strut alternatives. i bought the ones recommended in the thread for the hood and hatch (a fair savings from the OEM ones) and after swapping out the end pieces (that would fit) with the my originals ones they have done the job. IIRC he mentioned in that thread that he was going to try and find an alternative part for the door struts, but i can't say if he did or not. i can say that after an extensive search i never found a "fer sure" alternative for the door struts. however, i have no doubt that they are out there. is it worth the time and trouble? probably not, and i'm a cheap SOB.

Ya, that's the thread I was referring to. BMW-North was the member, and I used his recommendation for rear hatch struts which worked a charm. (Thanks BMW North)

I've replaced the door struts twice in my 2006 DB9. The genuine AM struts are lasting about 7 years, give or take.

I bought hood and door struts from Redpants and they work fine. Original AM struts. Be sure to see his video. No I don't work for him.

I just replaced the door struts on my Rapide with OEM and no issues. They work great!

i made the mistake of getting my struts replaced and the originals regassed (recommendation of independent), lasted a couple of weeks so will be replacing myself with OEM after i got the joy of being smashed in the leg by the door, there is a huge mass in the door and the struts is really small - hence must be under massive pressure so my recommendation is go OEM every time - OEMs door struts are not exactly expensive !

Ya, I was hoping to find something locally available with a bit more oomph, but ended up bringing an OEM pair in from Scuderia.

I put the driver's side in yesterday and the door now stays open parked on a flat surface. (Passenger side will have to wait for spring).

I too had the factory struts installed on my 2010 Vantage and I have a slight incline on my driveway. The doors were downright dangerous as the struts would not hold the door open. I went to https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/ye...TIBLE%202-DOOR and bought two struts and they are perfect. No problems with the door slamming shut anymore. I live in the San Diego area so, I just picked them up. They have been on the car about 9 months and again, no issues.

I saw those through Amazon, but they had poor reviews so I got scared off. Glad to see the Amazon reviews were false and that the PM3777 are working good!

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party - Great find scotstern - I'll add PM3777 to my interchange catalogue. For the earlier question on the support - the strut force for the door is rated at 250N.

My hope was to find a compatible strut with about 10-20% extra oomph, but the OEM one I installed seems adequate (on flat ground at least).

Do not waste your money on these! Total garbage!

I ordered them from amazon a few months ago and finally got around to installing them... they work worse than the ones I was replacing! Totally useless! Ordered OEM ones from another site and they work perfect so I know it wasn't my installation job... pay the extra 20 bucks or whatever for OEM and save yourself some time

Bump to the top. Can anyone recommend a good set of replacement door struts? I am scared of purchasing the Liftsupports ones due to the mixed reviews.
