I am in the process of replacing the plugs and coils of my 2007 db9. In the process of disassembling, I found that the coating on the coil covers is very badly flaking off, mostly around the screw holes. Has anyone else had this happen? I am debating sending the covers out to be re-coated. About what should I expect this to cost?
If you powdercoat the coil covers, to get a decent match, you will also need to do the cam covers. If you are not that concerned about matching the finish, then just get the coil covers stripped and repaint with a wrinkle finish black. To prevent the finish getting damaged by the screws, just use nylon washers under them so they do not cut into the finish.
FWIW, I had the valley cover and the braces powder coated. Cost me about $150.00. Thought about the rest of the motor and stopped while I was "behind". They probably would look nicer in a a good matte black.
Finally got my coil covers back. After looking at a few samples, I decided on Emeryboard Grey III (PCB-1103) from Prismatic Powders. The color is a near perfect match but it lacks the aged and slightly oxidized patina of the original parts. Depending on the angle, the look of the coil covers ranges from dead on to really dark. They're mostly hidden under the intake manifolds anyway so it's close enough for me. If it were any other part I would probably take everything to the coater and have them all redone at once. Valve covers, coil covers, water pump housing, manifold bridge, slam panel, cross-brace mounts... Maybe more?
