2011 Vantage V8 - “Camshaft Correlation” Issues

Hey group, I’m new to the AM world, and so far I’m loving every part of it. I recently acquired a 2011 V8V and have ran into an issue that I’m trying to solve. Was curious if anyone here has faced a similar issue or has any insight on how I can go about fixing things. 20k original kms on the car fwiw, probably why it’s giving issues since it’s barely been driven in its lifetime 🤦‍♂️.

CEL is on and I have a bunch of codes that lit up in regards to engine timing being off as well as some misfires. The exact codes are:

P0016: camshaft position correlation Bank 1 sensor A
P0018: camshaft position correlation Bank 1 sensor B
P0022: intake camshaft position timing over retarded Bank 2
P0300: random misfire
P0302: cylinder 2 misfire
P0308: cylinder 8 misfire
P0316: misfire detected on startup (first 1000 revs)

(Cylinder misfire codes often change cylinders after erases and rescans or sometimes don’t even show up during scanning so I doubt it’s ignition related.)

The car itself still runs and drives good, with only a slight misfire noticeable at idle, nothing too severe it seems/feels. I’ve tried swapping coils and plugs for those cylinders to determine whether it was ignition related but that did not give any positive results, so my next area of interest was the variable valve timing solenoid, camshaft position sensors, or timing chain.

I was advised by Velocity to datalog cam angles, which I’ll have to check on Monday since my scanner doesn’t read that data, but was hoping for any other expert advise from this group in the meantime.

Thank you kindly,

Ken

If you don't have it, here are links to the service manuals:

If it really is systemic to both sides of the engine, would the crank position sensor be the common factor?
Or, as you mention, variable valve timing control.

Matt,

Thank you kindly for that Dropbox link since I did not have access to any of that! I just read through a bit of it in terms of the codes and descriptions, and I also came across it mentioning the P0022 being thrown by VCT irregularities. Do you think it would be from the VVT solenoids or potentially the entire unit? I can’t seem to find any crankshaft sensors for the vantage v8, would it be monitored by the crankshaft sprocket (page 873 of workshop manual)? Sorry can’t screenshot it as I’m viewing it from my phone. If I go for the camshaft sensors would I be looking at: 6G43-03-10048? Once I can get to a better scanner to datalog cam angles I can see if the cam gear/wheels behind the cams are off.

Thank you,
Ken
