The fuel cap tether on the aluminum gas cap broke this morning on my Vantage. Has anyone successfully opened up the connection at the cap and closed it successfully? I would rather not further damage the cap, which is pristine, over the tether. At the same time, I'd like to keep the cap tethered...

 

I removed the internals and replaced them with a Range Rover part that the gas cap is based on, only the metal part was unique to AM. It was very straightforward to do and nothing broke, from what I remember, it basically just pulled apart.
