The 2008 vantage roadster I picked up a couple months ago has a bit of an issue with the headliner not being attached, but other than that, its in great shape. It looks like the headliner should connect to the convertible mechanism just next to the seatbelt attachment seems to have lifted up/ come loose. A few pictures attached showing the condition where the grey tab is visible and the headliner not in the correct place.
It looks like there needs to be some adhesive or mechanism that holds it in.. but any advice on how to figure it out other than take it to the dealer? I was thinking about deploying the convertible mechanism about half way and trying to see if I can find something to attach that grey tab to... but any other tips would be very much appreciated before I just start tinkering around. This is on both the passenger and driver side.
Thank you ahead of time for any advice! This Grey tab shouldn't be visible... and the headliner is bunched up
Hi there, I uncovered mine and took a look.
My 2009 Vantage has a similar issue on the drivers side. I think the piece hanging down is a pad to protect the liner from chaffing against the seatbelt guides.
On the passenger side that piece is glued to the back of the liner but not attached to any mechanisms. Once we get some better weather I plan on checking with one of the local convertible top repair places in the Puget Sound area and see what they recommend. I would have included pics but my liner is black and I couldn't get any detail in the photos. Is your liner anchored to the window frame or fitted in a slot and slides some? The window edge seems higher than mine.
I tried to stop the retraction process once at 1/2 way. When I pulled the ECU out of the slot (because I expected to be working on the top for awhile) the top mechanism lost pressure and lowered the top onto the cover. It took some finagling with props and careful lifting of parts to get the top and cover back in sync. I have not tried to stop at 1/2 way since then :-) But it stil works! I was checking for a rattle. Maybe the loose nut was behind the wheel and not under the cover?
My theory is those 2 pieces are to control flutter when the top is up and windows are open. On my car the drivers side with the loose pad flaps in the turbulance and passerger side with pad attached to the back of the headliner does not.
I will subscribe to this and let you know what I find.
Thanks
Lance
Hi my 2012 roadster also has same issue, the stitching at the fabric materials is unraveling, on right side. I tried to re-stitch the section to prevent from further loosening. I think there is movement there because I keep finding the stitching to come loose.
