WOW! Great day today....sorta kinda.. Question please....
So, after getting the Vantage, did a few things that were making me NUTS!!!
Replaced the Driver's door lower margin seal. Found one local to DFW for $100.00. Not at all hard to put on... Replaced the dim-bulb map lights with LED... With 2X the money!
Got the hook up on a couple of space wheels from a Forum member (Thank you Jaime!)...Got the Michelin PS4's in from Tire Rack last week. Found a killer installer (Freddy @ GoMobile Tires DFW) in the DFW area to make a house call to put them on... Old 'stones' were 7 & 8 years old and were dry-rotted (Shocking...not so much!)...Gonna have to talk with the dealer about that... Really happy with how it runs and drives no... steering feels better (more precise), and a bit lighter. Does not follow the bumps, ruts or grooves. Best of all zero steering wheel vibration @ speed... Felt like I was driving with double-sided stick tape on the tires!!! Well worth the $$$ spent!!!
Thanks to @HSM Precision for the jack pads.. Worked like a CHAMP! The installer thought they were the 'cats ***'...
So, put about 150 miles on it today, heat cycling the rubber and getting it broken it.. Now, the questions....
I did some hard runs to 7K, but drove it rather 'sanely' about the last mile home... Noticed after I shut it off it was making pop/poof type noises every 15 seconds or so. Sounded like it was from the drives side cats,,, Decided to raise the hood, start it and let it idle for a few. That seems to have ended it. Coming home after dinner I did the last 5 miles or so like a granny...No issue. That anything to worry about?
Also, I power-washed the brakes and now they squeal... (clearly need new pads & rotors...) but it's also very squeaky (weird sound) going slow around corners... Some hard stops will cure the squeaky brakes, but the noise around corners is still there...
Am I missing something? Does the suspension need maintenance or R&R of the strut tower bushings?
Rather an un-cool sound...
Lined up & ready to get'er done Just in from the Rack. Love this... not so much. UGH!!! ....and DONE! Getting there...
Looking good..good score on the tires…I’m getting a set of the pucks..look awesome..think I’ll remember to leave in the car in case…you never know..I’m on the hunt for squeekless pads in the spring too..enjoy..
Hey Import- Thanks! That's where I keep mine... Seems wise... The installer also had real hockey pucks... I laughed... I have 6 of the damn things (in Texas no less!)... For better pads, look @ Redpants.lol. He's got the hook-up on pads & rotors... That's likely my next project!
i replaced my squealing OEM pads (had 17,000 miles on them and were about 12 years old and cracked) with some simple and inexpensive semi-metallic pads and put some copper grease on the piston side of the thin shims. it stopped all the squealing. the rotors were fine...
BTW, very nice blue. don't think i've seen one like it before.
You can fix the break squeal and the break dust problem with Porterfield RS4 pads soaked in anti-squeal before installation.
Pads should always be installed after new or resurfaced rotors.
You can fix the "very squeaky (weird sound) going slow around corners" by replacing you power steering fluid.
Congratulations on the Micheline PS 4S tires! They are the absolute best tire for your car.
Hey Hybrid- will do on the power steering fluid... I'll look in the book, but anything special or suggestions? Type-F, Dextron II or? Any tips on doing it? Pull off one of the lines, suck it out with a tool or? Brakes are next on the list...
Ok, small update, and one more 'bite-in-the-a$$' today... I bought 2 liters of Pentosin CHF11 for the PS, and a tool to such it out of the reservoir. Man, what that a beating. I ran 1 liter through to flush it a tad bit at a time.. This was helpful: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...h-process.html
End of the process, noise was still there. Thinking it has to be the brakes... The noise seems speed-related in time with the wheel-speed...at least my thought...
There's what the fluid I took out looked like... On a blue shop rag, it appeared colorless - not dirty per se'.
So, take it out for a drive to test my handy-work...decided to hose down the front of the car after working on it... (Yes, I have the fenders covered in plastic)... Decided to try the wipers... BAM! washers kicked in and the right side washer cover goes flying... Too busy of a road & too dark to chance it... Guess I will order one. Looks like it's a replacement part... 30 pounds in the UK, so I am guessing $60.00 in the US. Understand Jag has a cross reference for it... Man, the hits keep coming!!! Ugh,,, Should NOT have tried the wipers.... This is the fluid after I was about 1/2 way through the liter.. This was the first half of the fluid.
If you pull the fuse for the headlamp washer pump, no more issues, and the front of the car stays clean.
As far as your noise at wheel speed on corners. HAND BRAKE PADS. on a deserted area lightly pull up on the lever with the button "in" then lower the lever while driving at speed. 2-3 times should deglaze the surface of the pads. However you should verify that there is sufficient pad material on them beforehand. And make sure the system is adjusted correctly.
@@J doubleU - Like the way you think on the fuse mod...Gonna have to do that!! I've actually done the hand-brake de-glaze in the past on other cars, but haven't had to do on a car with rear handbrake calipers. That makes perfect sense. I bet that's what it is. Will do that ASAP! Thank you...

Second the PorterfPorterfields. When I had a V8, that was the first thing I did because the squeal was horrible.
