ASM I gear oil
ASM I gear oil
Hi all
I know there is a sticky on this subjet but it was started back in 2013 and I wanted to get a little update, if any, from a more recent perspective....
Planning to change gear oil in my 2009 Vantage. It's been about 5 years...I've read the sticky and also read Rich's commentary and watched video on RedPants.lol... Easy enough process but what about any recent developments in the 70W fluids for the ASM?
I can get the Castrol BOT 270A fluid from my local Aston Dealer, at $65/lt or RedPants at $55/lt plus shipping...I'm looking to see if anyone has used something more readily available. I saw some comments on Redline products but most were going to use on the MT rather than the ASM...BTW. I am in Florida, no very cold weather, etc. which I understand was the reason behind a custom blend ( colder, thicker...etc.) but if I ever sell the car, want to make sure the fluids are compatible,
Any thoughts appreciated..

Red Line MT LV 70-75w @Walmart for less than $25 a quart. ASM doesn't mind what spec. I've seen people put 80-90w and have no issues. But I'd stick with BOT 70 or Red Line for a good time.
Thanks! Saves me $200 so I can buy a full tank of gas!
I just changed my ASM gear oil using Redline but I was short with the gallon, so don't buy just the gallon, add on the 1 liter bottle as it takes 4.5lts. Good deal on Bimmerworld.com with free shipping.
Mine has 45k miles and likely never changed, oil was dirty and smelled bad. A lot of residue on the filter and drain plug but fortunately no metal shavings.
BTW, Anyone know the measurements for the copper crush washers? I can't find one of the washers and put the old one on temporarily until I can source one.
Thanks
