Been meaning to write this up for quite some time, hopefully it’ll help someone else out there.
I noticed my Vantage coolant temp was running hot when in traffic but not when moving. Normally a sign that the radiator fan isn’t working.
Sure enough, I did some testing and the fan didn’t come on. I tested the fans by hardwiring 12v to them, and they worked.
OEM fan controller module:
I narrowed the issue down to the fan control unit, made by an Italian company BIM which no longer exists.
At this point, the choices were to buy a whole new fan pack from Aston. Replace with a second hand control module identical with that from a Jaguar XKR/XK8, try using a newer fan control module by Ford or try something different…..I went different.
I did a bit of research and ended up with a part off an old Jaguar X-Type, it wasn’t much money at around £20, so I thought it’d be worth a shot.
Installed the new part on a test run and it worked a treat:
Here are the part numbers for you:
At this point I cut the OEM fan plugs off and had an electronics engineer at work solder them in and use the correct amalgamating tape to seal things up:
Reassembled on the bench and back in to the radiator pack:
Back in the car, easy!
The bonnet struts were changed at the same time, as the hood fell on my head mid job - which I wasn’t too pleased about!!
Hope this helps someone else out suffering with fan controller issues.
