I don’t get it
My friends are all about Porsche. GT3, 911 Turbo S. They swear if they had $250k sitting there, those are the cars that they would buy. Maybe I need to drive one to compare. But I still love my v8v. It’s just classic and gets the job done. No it won’t do 0-60 in 2.2 seconds or however fast these Porsches go. It probably doesn’t handle or turn corners anywhere as close. But at least it won’t sound like a 6 cylinder. Am I missing something or do I need to do the Porsche experience in Torrance?
Turbo S? Meh. Fast used to impress me, but everything is so much faster than you can use now, it all seems rather irrelevant. As for sounding like a 6 cylinder, count me out if this is what they sound like. A giant vacuum cleaner.
I admire Porsches greatly for their engineering and technical brilliance. From a performance perspective, they make our cars look like a horse and buggy. But I do not desire them. They are too clinical, too perfect, too commonplace. I like my cars with character, and that means with flaws, too. For me, that makes them more engaging and certainly more desirable.
I went from a V8V to a 718 GT4 and couldn't be any happier the car just begs you to beat the **** out of it and you don't have to worry as much about random things breaking (at least in my head)
looks stellar, its light, and and sounds pretty decent for a porsche, only thing I'd upgrade it to would be a gt4rs or a spyder rs
I do miss my Aston though wish I could have kept it, the grand touring/sportyness of it plus that great V8 sound while still being an excellent handling car is tough to top for the price!

I think you can't really argue against Porsches being better designed cars in most technical aspects, especially modern ones. I would love to have a 992 GT3 sitting around for occasional use.
Porsches are less about luxury and style. The interiors are so so and there are so many on the road the exteriors aren't special. My Aston Martin is more of a luxury car to me, it's like a limited edition Mercedes Benz SL class that is a bit more sporty and much sexier looking (i.e. like an AMG GT). I definitely notice my Gaydon era Vantage being much quieter than a recent Cayman or Boxster.
What most Porsches are great at is being good at many things. They have nice luxurious feeling interiors, reasonable noise and ride comfort, excellent suspension setup, decent power, daily usage practicality, and a good amount of visceral "feel".
