Fuse 22 switch placement/ Aston buttons

Hey guys,

How did you all do your switch and where?

I'm looking at a few options - either get a custom "Sport" switch and install it somewhere or just replace my "passenger airbag off" light with a switch.

Does anyone know whether the Aston Martin factory buttons are locking switches or momentary or how to wire them?

I did mine about 7yrs ago and was looking for the instructions I followed from someone on the forum, can't remember if it was here or PistonHead. I took my Pen holder off as I was missing it anyway and bought a Sport Button from a newer car that someone had replaced with Glass Button, I remember that the Sport Button needed to be modified by soldering a little isolation pad on the circuit board for it to work so I had it done by a friend. here is all I have, if I find all the instruction I will add them

Here is the instructions I got from Brent Hudson in the UK

************************************************** ************************************
The job is relatively straight forward but you will need some good soldering
skills to get the button done properly.
The flip-flop relays and remote gear I've used in the past was OK but I've
found some better bits. Here's what you'll need:
Multifunction timer -
https://www.rapidonline.com/gic-1cmdt0-modular-timer-12-functions-0-1s-100h-
12-240vac-dc-spco-28-3930

12v DPDT relay
Aston Sport button.
Any other Aston button to cut open.

1. Cut open the sport switch you want to keep by destroying the silver
chrome surround. Do not damage the black plastic parts. You can see how it
comes apart by snapping off the metal lock strips.
2. Cut open the scrificial switch by sacrificing the black connector at the
bottom and puling out the innards.
We do this because there is no way of opening the switch up and not damaging
it in some way. By doing this we have a full switch from the bits left over.
It also means you have two circuit boards to play with incase one goes
wrong!
3. Modify the circuit board as follows:
Basically, you need to desolder one sideof the LED on the picture at the
point of the arrow. Slip an insulator between the LED pad and the board.
Solder a wire from the desoldered LED pad and pin 6.
Pins 1 & 2 = Momentary action switch
Pins 4 & 5 = Active LED (5+, 4-)
Pins 3 & 6 = Night illumination (3+, 6-)
4. Wire up the system
5. Configure the MF relay for 'leading edge bistable'.

Hope it helps

Regards

Brent Hudson

I like the Bondian idea of putting it under the flip up cover for the center console ashtray.

@handyman2009 that is amazing info- thank you so much! Appreciate you taking the effort to find all that. I wonder if all the OEM buttons are momentary switches- if there's one that's a locking switch I'd just get that and customize it. Doesnt the first blue circuit board already turn the momentary switch into a locking? What's the black thing do?

Also why destroy the original button- can't we just use the existing pins/ buy a used connecting socket?

Anything Bondian is a win for me hahah but unfortunately my car has the smokers package- comes with a beautiful glass ashtray which I'm hesitant to get rid of for a switch!

You are welcome, as for the Aston Martin buttons I believe that they are all momentary switch but can't be use a one unless you make the modification needed. Yes that blue circuit board is a what will keep the circuit open (fuse out) and light up the Sport Button or circuit close (fuse in) and turn off the Sport Button. Not sure what you mean about the black thing... just a explosion of all the buttons !!!

PS: I wired mine to be Open all the time but can now Close the valves when I go on the highway on a long trip, quieter for the wife.... :-)
