I am happy this got resolved for you. Fighting over this is a complete waste of time and unnecessary aggravation nobody needs. As I mentioned, it really soured me on Aston ownership.

Just as FYI.

I believe that when the coil boot design was changed to include the ribs, MB actually claimed it was to stop vibrations and never admitted that water ingress was an issue. I just found this interesting.

For me, I never saw the final bill because we fought over it, every step of the way. My recollection is that to replace the coils and plugs was some stupid amount like $6000. No, I didn't accidentally add a zero, LOL.

I've changed plugs on the AMG GTS platform. There is an amazing amount of disassembly that has to be done, with screws and mounting brackets needed to be removed that you cannot see and can only be done by feel. I took my time (first time) and worked it over two full days, but after once, I was not interested in doing it again. And the AMG doesn't have a brace to remove too.

In these two pics, with a lot of stuff removed already and you can finally see the tops of the cyl heads, all of these PCV tubes have to be removed on both banks and the coils are now only barely seen as #s 31 and 30; #s 32 and 33 on the other bank.

At the start, With most of the dress covers off (and Engine brace in the case of the V8V) this is what bank one looks like. You cannot make out the top of the cylinder heads yet and cannot even see the coils.

One of the Blind screws to remove the obstructing PCV tubes on Bank one starts with a bolt between the turbo inlet tubes that can barely be seen:

I used tools like these "a few times".

I would be interested in knowing how many labor hours they took.

after reading your post on replacing the plugs, I may not sleep for a week. Sheeesh. We do not appreciate the engineering that goes in to producing the modern cars we often take for granted.

IIRC, I did have a conversation with the service manager about how long it takes. I said "I can change the coils in my other cars in 2-3 hours at a relaxed pace. Why is it so expensive for the Aston" He said it was a little more work than most cars and that it's about 4-5 hours. That to me means 2-3 the way they work and bill out. Anyway, there is a little more work to remove the cowl, windshield wipers and the cross brace but it doesn't look that complicated. IMO, all modern cars are a pain in the *** to maneuver around...just no space. Still $6K is Aston pricing because it's...well...Aston. No doubt Stroll will move that price up as he ties to move Aston into the Ferrari league.

By the way, an oil change at the dealer is -$1000. Changing the oil in the Vantage is one of the easiest cars I have ever done and is a little over an hour for me with most of it being cleanup because I am not set up for easy disposal of oil. My dealer charges $1800+ for a minor service which includes a brake flush. Claims it takes a whole day for the service. They remove the bottom plates, inspect and retorque a number of bolts. They also replace the battery in your key fob. Sounds like mostly busywork to me. My next closes dealer quote me $2550 but they don't do a brake flush but replace the serpentine belt.

That't the thing I really don't like about Aston. There is not a deep DIY Community. Porsche is great that way. Somebody, somewhere has done what you want to do and posted a video on Youtube.

It's also good to know that newer designs of the coil packs are available, so it might be worth asking the dealer if they can install those instead of just replacing the old ones. This could potentially help prevent the same issue from happening again in the future.

If you mean the coil packs, the new coils are just referred to as the new design coils. The dealer will know what that means.

I feel sorry for you. AM service is just so expensive. It seems the dealers are keeping the doors open through the service department. AM cars are not flying off the lot so the service has to do its part. It looks like the AM corporation is going to make good. Sometimes it seems a lawyer is the only way to get the warranty honored.
